This week I am using the Heron Habitat Bundle as my featured bundle. Today's card uses a water coloring technique that I call Organic Water Coloring. What I mean by Organic Water Coloring is that we are not coloring a pre-stamped image, and we don't totally control where the ink goes. We just sort of go where the water flows.
This summer, my Stampin' Up! Upline has been featuring one of her team members on her blog each month, and this month I am her featured stamper. This is one of the cards I made for her to share. I also created a video that shows how to create the hand-drawn background with ink and a Water Painter. If you would like to watch it, the video is available on my YouTube Channel at this link.
To create the card, I first stamped the Heron on Watercolor Paper using my Stamparatus and Stazon ink. Whenever you are water coloring, you need to use a permanent ink like Stazon or the ink will run once the water contacts it. When stamping on watercolor paper, I recommend using the Stamparatus (or a similar tool) because the watercolor paper often has a small amount of texture on the surface, and sometimes you need to stamp multiple times to get a clean crisp image.
Because I wanted my Heron to look like he was standing "knee-deep" in water, I masked his feet before inking and then stamping him. I also wanted to pop up the body on dimensionals, so, I stamped him a second time on Basic White and then fussy cut just the body. This provided some dimension to an otherwise quite flat card.
The sentiment from the Heron Habitat stamp set was die cut with one of the dies from Heron Dies. This die makes two small heart cut-outs at each end which provide the perfect place to tie a bow made with Silver Simply Elegant Trim. The sentiment is also popped up with dimensionals to provide a little more dimension on the card.
For the inside of the card, I simply stamped a grassy area with Granny Apple Green ink and then stamped the cattails using the same technique as defined in the video to achieve Granny Apple Green stems and Crumb Cake cattails.
As with all projects I post, a FREE TUTORIAL with all dimensions and step-by-step directions is available for download at this link.

I hope you will come back on Wednesday and Friday to see additional cards made with the Heron Habitat Bundle.
