THE PEACE OF THE SHEPHERD

Today's card is a sneak peek of a new Christmas Stamp Set that will be available in the 2024 Fall Mini Catalog.  This catalog goes LIVE on September 4, so this beautiful Christmas stamp set can soon be yours.

I made this card for my Coffee Club Challenge this month.  We were tasked (by me) to make a card using something from our home that was not "paper crafting" related.

The item I used was a piece of a rug pad, and I used it to stamp the background for my card.

I also used it to stamp the Balmy Blue cardstock that is on my envelop flap.  I inked the rug pad with a Balmy Blue ink pad and then laid my cardstock on the pad.

There are so many things that we have laying around the house that can "turned into" crafting supplies!  It's fun to experiment with different things.  Some work out well, and others not so well.

The shepherd and the large star were both heat embossed with silver embossing powder which certainly provides elegance to the card.  This stamp set does not have coordinating dies, so I fussy cut the images and popped them up with dimensionals.  The sheperd's coat and head piece were colored with Stampin' Blends.

When I first saw this stamp set in the Fall Mini, I was immediately drawn to it, and a big part of the appeal was the sentiments.  I love that Stampin' Up! has all different types of stamp sets, and that they always include selections that provide a way to share our Christian faith with others.

The product information on this new stamp set (available September 4, 2024) is:

  • Item # 164300  Shepherd's Care  9 Cling Stamps  $26

SOFTLY SAID FAUX METAL

I'm calling this a bit of a "cheater" card.  Do I look like I cheated?  I did -- just a bit!

During my weekly Learning with Friends videos I demonstrate how to do various techniques.  I focus on the technique and don't typically make a complete card.  As a result, the technique sheets have been accumulating!

Since they are too pretty to throw away I decided I need to start using them.  Today's card was created to feature the Faux Metal Technique, but it needed a pretty background.  This Faux Embossed Patina background was one of my favorites, and I thought it worked well with the Silver Faux Metal sentiment plaque.

To learn how to make Faux Metal, you can watch this Learning with Friends video.

If you missed the Faux Patina video from a year ago, it is also still available on my YouTube Channel.

This is the first time I tried to make a Faux Metal Sentiment Plaque.  The sentiment is from the Softly Said Stamp Set.  If you like large bold sentiments, then this is an ONLINE EXCLUSIVE stamp set that you should check out.  It is only sentiments, and they are large and bold!

Because of the size of the stamp, the Faux Metal Technique required a few extra layers of embossing powder (and a few extra tries), but I was happy how it "eventually" turned out.   ðŸ˜‚

The inside sentiment is from So Sincere, another favorite sentiment set.

To learn more about these stamp sets and see the variation of greetings in each set, click on the product image in the list below, and you will be able to see all the sentiments in each set.

Since I made the Faux Embossed Patina background over a year ago, the Stripes and Splatters embossing folder, and two of the ink colors, Pacific Point and Tahitian Tide, have since retired, but no worries, just substitute products you have.

INK FLOATING MONARCH BUTTERFLY

I goggled "most beautiful butterfly images" and I was surprised to see that the Monarch Butterfly is dubbed the "King" of Butterflies as being considered the most beautiful.

The Monarch is basically Black and Orange with a little white, so, it also seemed like a perfect choice to create using the Ink Floating Technique.

I used Black Embossing Powder for the large image from Sketched Butterflies and then floated Pumpkin Pie ink on the wings.

If you are not familiar with the Ink Floating Technique, you can watch my Learning with Friends video to see how it is done.  It is a very easy technique!

The Pool Party background around the butterfly was also created using the Ink Floating Technique.

With this technique you basically make a little puddle of water on your cardstock and then add some ink to the puddle.  Letting the "puddle" dry naturally gives you the variegated color.  You have less "control" than normal watercoloring, but the result is always unique.

In the photos, the variation shows more in the background than on the butterfly, but believe me, it is there on the wings also.  My photography "skills" or lack thereof, just don't do it justice.

I used the So Swirly Embossing Folder for my background as I thought swirls seemed very appropriate for my butterfly!

I added an embossed So Swirly strip at the bottom of the inside also.  The sentiment is one from the Sketched Butterflies stamp set.
