LAYERS OF BEAUTY

This week, I am featuring some of my favorite retiring products from Stampin' Up! These products have recently been added to the Last Chance List, so once they are gone, they’ll be gone forever.

Today's card is made with the Layers of Beauty Bundle.  I love that this bundle has coordinating masks which makes coloring the large, beautiful, floral image so easy.

I used two of the retiring 2024-2026 In Colors: Pretty in Pink and Petunia Pop.  For me, it was love at first sight with this 24-26 Class of In Colors, so I'll admit I'm a little sorry to say goodbye.

Before adding the flowers, the Basic White cardstock was very lightly shaded with Pretty in Pink ink using a Blending Brush.  A few speckles were also added by flicking the cap of a Basic Black Stamping Write Marker on the brush end of the marker.

After creating the image with gold heat embossing, I colored it using blending brushes and the coordinating five layers of masks.   After die cutting the coloring image it was positioned in the lower right corner of the tinted Basic White cardstock so that some of the edges were extending off the cardstock layer.  Those edges were then trimmed flush with the Basic White layer.

The sentiment was stamped with Old Olive ink and die cut using the small label die from Layers of Beauty Dies.

For the inside of the card, I stamped a portion of the large floral image and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.  The coloring process using masks and blending brushes was repeated, just as on the card front.

THE PEACE OF THE SHEPHERD

Today's card is a sneak peek of a new Christmas Stamp Set that will be available in the 2024 Fall Mini Catalog.  This catalog goes LIVE on September 4, so this beautiful Christmas stamp set can soon be yours.

I made this card for my Coffee Club Challenge this month.  We were tasked (by me) to make a card using something from our home that was not "paper crafting" related.

The item I used was a piece of a rug pad, and I used it to stamp the background for my card.

I also used it to stamp the Balmy Blue cardstock that is on my envelop flap.  I inked the rug pad with a Balmy Blue ink pad and then laid my cardstock on the pad.

There are so many things that we have laying around the house that can "turned into" crafting supplies!  It's fun to experiment with different things.  Some work out well, and others not so well.

The shepherd and the large star were both heat embossed with silver embossing powder which certainly provides elegance to the card.  This stamp set does not have coordinating dies, so I fussy cut the images and popped them up with dimensionals.  The sheperd's coat and head piece were colored with Stampin' Blends.

When I first saw this stamp set in the Fall Mini, I was immediately drawn to it, and a big part of the appeal was the sentiments.  I love that Stampin' Up! has all different types of stamp sets, and that they always include selections that provide a way to share our Christian faith with others.

The product information on this new stamp set (available September 4, 2024) is:

  • Item # 164300  Shepherd's Care  9 Cling Stamps  $26

MOODY MAUVE SPOTLIGHT ON NATURE

Today's card uses a technique that I don't remember having done before.  I am trying to think outside of the box a bit and try different things.  When coloring with Stampin' Blends, one of my favorite coloring mediums, I usually color on Basic White cardstock or occasionally Very Vanilla.  Today I thought I would try the Stampin' Blends on colored cardstock.

What do you think?  I heat embossed the images from Spotlight on Nature with white embossing powder on Moody Mauve cardstock and then colored them with Stampin' Blends.  I discovered that the alcohol based Stampin' Blends also add some color to the embossed portion of the image and it doesn't easily wipe off.  I ending up really liking this "surprise" particularly on the leaves because then the Granny Apple Green color showed up a bit.

If I tried to keep the green only on the Moody Mauve cardstock and not on the embossed portion of the image, it didn't really look "green".  It just sort of darkened the Moody Mauve cardstock.

What do you think? Even though it was different than I envisioned, I sort of like how it turned out.

This was not a difficult card, but I will admit that it was one that I played around with a lot more than I wanted.  I kept changing the colors of the cardstock layers.

I started with a Basic Beige card base which looked really pretty in the "pile" on my workspace, one once the card was put together it looked a bit blah.  Then I added the Basic White layer between the Pretty Peacock and the Moody Mauve and that helped brighten it up a bit, but I still wasn't crazy about it.

I finally ended up getting rid of the Basic Beige totally and just going with a Basic White card base, and that gave it more "life".  Am I the only one that struggles with colors?  Sometimes even my Color Coach lets me down.  And this was one of those days!

The sentiment die cut is from the Spotlight on Nature Dies.  I love these circle dies!  There are 3 different designs and several sizes of each which can be layered or left to stand alone.

After I added the Iridescent Faceted Gems on the card front (one was strategically placed to cover up a boo-boo!), it still seemed like it needed something -- so I added the two little ribbon tails under the sentiment.

I know this is weird but I'm probably happiest with the inside of the card!  The leaves were stamped with Black Memento and colored with Granny Apple Green Blends.

I'd love to hear what you think of the card.  For an easy card, I sure stressed over this one!

Now that I have it all figured out (I think), you can take advantage of my struggles and just download the FREE Tutorial.
