MEMORIAL DAY SAILING TRIP

It's a new week, so I have a new bundle to share.  It's called Let's Set Sail, and it is a punch bundle.  As much as I love a great die set bundle, it's always fun to get back to the basics of punches.  After all, punches have been around a LOT longer than dies, right?

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY stamping friends!  Do you remember when it was called Decoration Day?  I like the name Memorial Day better.  It seems more fitting for the meaning and purpose of having this special day of remembrance.

Today, as we remember those that have paid the ultimate price in their service to our country, my mind automatically goes to a Red, White & Blue color theme.

This Let's Set Sail bundle combines my love of punches and my love of all things water. I used the Diorama Dies to highlight a Sunset Scene over the water.  This background was created with Blending Brushes.  These kinds of scenes are so easy and fun to make.  It is an opportunity to let creativity flow.  I used a circle die from Stylish Shapes for my sun.

The Sailboat was stamped with Poppy Parade ink and the sails were simply punched from Basic White cardstock.  To create the illusion of billowing sails I hand drew a few curved lines on the sails with a Glimmery Gel pen.  I used the lines in the stamps as my guide.  You can see similar white lines made by the stamp in the sneak peek image of the envelope in the photo above.

To make sure the inside of the card did not feel forgotten, I added a quick and easy stamped sailing scene.  The water and sails were stamped with Night of Navy and again the boat was stamped with Poppy Parade.

I hope you liked today's card and are looking forward to seeing more cards made with the Let's Set Sail bundle.

SUNSET HERONS

Are you ready for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend?  Here in Michigan, this weekend is usually considered the kick-off of summer!  It can be one of the busier boating days on my lake -- but of course, that depends on the weather.  It's also often a rainy and chilly day, but let's hope it's warm and sunny this year!

Today I am sharing my last Heron Habitat card for the week, but I have a feeling that you will be seeing more cards from me that are made with this bundle.

This is a Double Z-Fold Card, and it is one of my favorite Fun-Fold cards to make.  It is easy and is a useful design to showcase pretty designer series paper.

However, while I enjoy making these cards, I have to admit, it is one of my least favorite cards to try to photograph!  I find it difficult to find the right angle to show off the card at its best.

I used the new Texture Chic Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) for my card today.  I think this is my favorite DSP in the new catalog.  It is always so hard for me to actually start cutting my favorite paper up, but I loved the Soft Succulent and Pool Party colors in this DSP and thought these colors worked well with the Sunset Scene I wanted to create.

Another beautiful paper that I have been hoarding from last year's catalog is the Gold & Rose Gold 6" x 6" Metallic DSP.  Thankfully, it has carried over into the new catalog.  Can you see the sparkle on the mat around the sunset?  I also thought it made beautiful grass glittering in the setting sun!

The background was created with my Blending Brushes.  The "shaped" water was made by creating a mask with one of the dies from Heron Dies.  It almost looks like it is a separate piece of cardstock, doesn't it?  But it is just Pacific Point Ink blended on the bottom of Basic White cardstock.  The sky was blended with So Saffron and Calypso Coral ink.

The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Heron Habitat stamp set and has been die cut with one of the flag dies from Stylish Shapes Dies -- another new favorite of mine!  I blended a little So Saffron and Calypso Coral ink on the sentiment so that it didn't have such a stark white appearance against the colorful sky.

The above photo shows both "Z's" fully open so you can see each of the panels.  This perspective also gives you a good view of the beautiful Texture Chic DSP.

I hope you have enjoyed this week's Heron Habitat Bundle.  I had fun making the cards and sharing them with you.

Have a great Holiday Weekend!  In keeping with the summer theme, I'll see you back here next week with some Sailing cards.  Who knows, maybe we will even sail into this sunset?

RUBBER BAND BACKGROUND AND A HERON

Henry the Heron has decided to come back for another visit today.  He has found a sandy shoreline today to hang out at.

I decided to use the Rubber Band Stamping Technique again today for Henry's background.  Doesn't it look like he had ink all over his feet and walked around my card?  I posted a Sending Smiles card last week that also used this Technique.  You can see it here.  Choice of colors sure makes a difference, doesn't it?

To make the beach scene, I again got out my blending brushes and started blending Crumb Cake and Tahitian Tide ink to create a place for Henry to stand and be on the lookout for his friends flying in to see him.

This Heron Habitat Bundle includes two "label" dies.  I used one of them for the sentiment which is also from the Heron Habitat stamp set.  On Monday's card I double layered the other one which is similar in design, but wider and not as high.  I love the little cut-out areas on these die cuts.  They look like tiny hearts!

For the inside of the card, I added a bit of the beach scene.  Henry said he was hungry and had to go look for some food, so he flew off.
