SPRING SUNSHINE IS AROUND THE CORNER

Today's card uses the simple Packing Tape Technique.  This technique is a simple way to add a high gloss element to your card.  The high gloss element on this card is the sun!

Unfortunately, some of the photos of the card don't do the shine justice.  But I can assure you, in person the sun is definitely shining!

This was a fun card to make.  It sort of developed as I went along.  I made this card during a Learning With Friends video to show the Packing Tape Shine Technique.  If you would like to see the video you can watch the replay here -- but do as I said, not as I did!

I definitely made a boo -- boo in the video.  You want to apply the packing tape to your image BEFORE you die cut it -- not after!

But like most boo-boos -- they are fixable and in the end it looks fine!

The above close-up better shows the shine that the packing tape provides.  It almost looks like it was embossed with clear embossing powder doesn't it?  I do love heat embossing, but the tape is so much quicker than embossing!

The flower in the bottom corner was die cut in Pretty Peacock cardstock.  I then used a piece of Full of Life Designer Series Paper (DSP) to put behind the cutout to add color to my flowers.  This particular DSP design had a lot of colors that looked like they had been watercolored on the paper, so I just chose a section I liked and adhered it to the back side.  But if you don't have DSP, you could always make a watercolor wash on Watercolor Paper and create your own piece of DSP to put behind the cutout.

To create my "lopsided" flap at the top of the card, I used a 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" square of Basic White.  I rotated it around until I had a flap shape I liked.  I then embossed it with the Dotted Circles embossing folder and adhered it to the Pretty Peacock cardstock.

Once adhered I just flipped the Pretty Peacock cardstock over and used the edges as my guide to trim the Basic White.  I found that easier than trying cut the "weird" angles to fit correctly.

The Pretty Peacock assembly was then easy to assemble to the Daffodil Delight mat and the front of the Gray Granite card base.

On the inside of the card I repeated the same process with another section of the Full of Life DSP to create the colors behind the flower cutout.
