USE THOSE LEFTOVERS FROM FOUR FUN TECHNIQUES!

This week I am serving leftovers! Did your mom have "leftover night" for dinner? We did. Sometimes those leftovers weren't great, but often they were even better the 2nd time!

Before I continue let me explain what I'm calling "leftovers". They are elements that I created previously for cards, but then never used. Several will be "leftover" technique sheets that I made during my Learning with Friends videos. Some may be extra die cuts, or sentiments I stamped but then changed my mind and wanted something different.

Some of my "leftovers" are past their expiration dates, but unlike leftover food, expired paper is still good. You just may not be able to purchase a certain product any more, but my goal this week is that I will inspire you to use your leftovers! Be honest, I know you have some!

This card uses leftovers from four different technique videos. The card base itself was made for a video showing how to make a Lattice Card.

The Double Embossed panel above the "fence" was made for a video to demonstrate the Double Embossing Technique.

The embossing folders I used were Elegant Eucalyptus & Timber 3D, but the choice of embossing folder is not critical to the design of the card. Use your two favorites, but as I explain in the video keep in mind the amount of texture each folder has.

The flowers on the card front were made with the Painted Lavender Bundle and the Pastel Embossing Technique. These recently retired, but again, use anything you have.

Here is a little closer look.

You can see some color peeking through the Lattice fence. This was made using the Smooshing Technique for another Learning with Friends Video. I love this technique!

The only part of this card that was made fresh was the upper panel on the inside of the card. I had to cut a new piece of Basic White and add a sentiment. Even the sentiment assembly on the front of the card was in my stash of leftovers!

RINGED WITH LOVE - DOUBLE EMBOSSING

This card uses the Double Embossing Technique to provide lots of texture.

This card also uses one of my go-to layouts. The two matted rectangle layers combined with a circle provide a lot of layout versatility that works with portrait layouts like this one and also landscape layers. You can mix and match the 3 elements and move them around to create quite different looks.

Download the tutorial at this link for the sizes of each element, but don't be afraid to change them up to suit your card. A great layout is always a good starting point but make it your own!

This card was made with my Goddaughter in mind. She has been house hunting for a few months, and I thought it would be a good idea to have a card in my stash ready to go in the mail to her when she finally finds her new home.

She is an adventurous nature lover that has prioritized the lot over the house, so I decided the Ringed with Nature stamp set would be appropriate. She wants a large lot filled with trees, flowers, and plants, so these tree rings seemed to be an appropriate choice. I tucked several tree branches behind the house to symbolize a wooded lot.

I guess we will see how her search ends, but one way or another, this card has her name on it!

If you look closely (you may have to zoom in) you will see that the vertical panel on the left has been double embossed. I used the Tree Rings Hybrid embossing folder and the Timber 3D embossing folder. The double embossing technique doubles the texture of the embossed panel.

I left the inside of the card clean and simple to make sure I had plenty of room to write a note of congratulations! Using the same designer series paper as was used on the card front to decorate the inside of the card and the envelope creates a beautiful, coordinated set of stationery.

PLAYING IN THE RAIN

On Monday Mr. Rabbit was dancing in the rain. Today Mr. Fox decided to take a walk across his favorite bridge even though it was a rainy day.

But he is well prepared for the rain with his bright sunny umbrella, hat, and raincoat.

Today's card uses the Double Embossing Technique that I demonstrated on my Learning with Friends video a couple of weeks ago. If you missed the video, you can watch the replay below.

This technique is so easy. All you need are two embossing folders and a Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (or similar). The video includes some tips on which folders work best and the best "order" to use them.

The two embossing folders used on this card are the Raindrops Embossing Folder (EF) and the Painted Posies embossing folder. As I recommend in the video, it works best to emboss with the folder that has the most consistent and least extreme embossing pattern first and then emboss using the folder with the heavier pattern. So, on today's card I first embossed with the Raindrops EF and then with the Painted Posies EF.

Mr. Fox was colored with Stampin' Blends. To see the colors used, you can download the free tutorial available at this link.

The bridge that Mr. Fox is crossing is assembled to the embossed panel so that it curves slightly outward from the card front. To do that, I adhered one end of the bridge with liquid adhesive and then gently pushed the other end of the bridge towards the adhered end to make the bridge slightly curve outward. The second end of the bridge was then adhered to hold the slight curve.

This provides some dimension to the card and also provides a more realistic appearance as there is a little space between the card front and the bridge railing which provides room for Mr. Fox to walk.

Two tufts of Old Olive grass were die cut with the Playing in the Rain Dies and adhered at each end of the bridge with dimensionals to anchor it, so it doesn't look like it is floating in space.

At the end of his walk, when Mr. Fox gets to the inside of the card he meets his friend Mr. Rabbit who is still happily dancing in the rain.

Mr. Fox and Mr. Rabbit hope you will stop by to see them on Friday as they join together for a chat at the fence.
