PAPER STRIPS AND FRIENDLY FOLIAGE

This week I am sharing some additional ideas with the Friendly Foliage Bundle.  I featured this bundle back in November, and it has quickly become a favorite of mine.  It is versatile and can be "dressed up", or "dressed down".

Today, I decided to use some of the smaller foliage stamps and die cuts.  I tend to gravitate towards the very interesting large focal point stamp & die, but I wanted to see what I could do with some of the smaller pieces alone.

The background for this card is made with 3/4" strips of the Boho Vibes Designer Series Paper (DSP).  It's a great way to use of those strips of DSP that seem to accumulate but are so hard to throw away.

Just position the strips in any pattern on a piece of cardstock and adhere them.  Then trim your sheet to size to get rid of all the "over-hanging" strips.

After I completed my background, I simply added one of the sentiments from the Friendly Foliage stamp set.  A few of the small leaves were added to the back of the sentiment assembly before adhering it to the card front with dimensionals,

For the inside of the card, I made another strip for the bottom of the message layer using the same paper strips technique.  Since I had a couple of the stems left over from the card front, I tucked them under the edge of the strip.  (You could also just stamp them on the Basic White before adhering the decorative strip.)

I even used the Paper Strip technique to cover a 6" x 2-1/2" piece of Basic White to cover the envelope flap.  If I had thought ahead, I would have made a larger piece all at once and then cut it into two pieces for the inside strip and the envelope.

BLACK & WHITE SUNFLOWERS

Black and White with just a tiny pop of red has been a favorite color combination of mine for years.  Maybe it dates back to my High School Colors which were black and white with sometimes (not always) just a hint of red on the sports uniforms.

I'm not sure if "nostalgia" is why I like it, or if I just like it.  But I know that I'm not the only one that likes this color combination.  I've had stampers in my in-person classes that were always happy when I had a black & white card with just a hint of red tossed in.

So today, this card continues that "tradition".

This card was SO QUICK AND EASY to make.  Emboss the Basic White cardstock with the Sunflower 3D embossing folder and drag an ink pad of Black Memento ink across it.  Voila!

All that remained was adding a bit of black & white gingham ribbon and a sentiment.  The sentiment is from the Peace on Earth stamp set.  Yes, this greeting stamp set is not just for Christmas!

The Nested Essentials Dies made quick work of cutting out the sentiment and a second piece of Poppy Parade cardstock to add just a little more red on the sea of Black and White Sunflowers.

Basic Rhinestone were colored with a Dark Poppy Parade Stampin' Blend to add a bit of red sparkle.

When I made the embossed layer for the card front, I made it a little larger than my desired finished size.

This gave me some "scraps" when I trimmed it down to size.  I used one on the inside of the card and another on the edge of the envelope.  This is a quick and easy way to make a pretty coordinated card and envelope set.

SKETCH-Y AWESOME TURTLES

As promised on my Learning with Friends Video yesterday, this is the post with all the information on the card we made.

This card was made using my Fairless Stampin' Flair Sketch #3.

Sketch #3 has 4 basic elements - two rectangles and two elements that can be any shape you like.  For my Sketch-Y Turtle card, I used Around it All dies to create my two additional elements.

The Basic White layer on the card front was embossed with the Turtle Textures embossing folder, but the layer does not need to be embossed.  It's your choice.  You can even eliminate the layer completely.

Remember, the greatest benefit of sketches is to provide inspiration.  They do not need to be followed exactly!

The turtle on today's card was colored with a unique color variety of Stampin' Blends--probably not colors you would choose for a turtle, but I wanted my turtle to coordinate with the Balmy Blue theme of the card base.

To learn how I colored him and to see other card ideas based on this sketch watch my Template Time Learning with Friends video.  To save time I only colored a portion of the turtle in the video, but it will show you how I used unusual colors for my turtle.

I left the inside of the card very clean and sentiment free.

I simply used a strip of the same DSP as I used on the card front.  By not adding a sentiment I increase the potential purposes that I can use this card for later.

After a slow start and some uncertainty with this Turtle-Y Cute Suite, I'm now Turtle-Y in love with it.  However, I strongly recommend that if you only purchase the stamp set and die bundle rather than the full suite that you also get the Turtle-Y Cute Designer Series Paper (DSP).  It is not only adorable, but it is a great source of inspiration for color selection and ideas for your projects.
