SALING UNDER THE MOON

My friend and neighbor built a sailboat and painted it red, so my card today was inspired by Jan.  She likes to go out on our lake and sail under the light of the moon!

This card was made using the Dry Embossing with a Shim Technique that I demonstrated on my Learning with Friends video a few weeks ago.

If you are unfamiliar with this old technique you can watch the video replay to see how it is done.

For this card I used the Soft Waves embossing folder and an approximately 2-1/2" diameter shim.  In the video I show how to make the shim and then combine it with the embossing folder to make a flat space in the middle of your embossed cardstock.

I could have stamped the image on a Basic White Circle die cut and then layered it over the embossed layer, but the advantage of this technique is to minimize the number of layers on your card and thus minimize your postage cost when you mail it.

Rather than add an additional layer, I stamped the images directly on the flat area created by the technique.  Because the stamp for the water was wider than my flat area, I did mask the outside area before stamping.  The mask was made from lightweight copy paper using the same size circle that I used to create the shim.

To make the image pop, I created a "port hole" frame using the largest Encircled in Nature die for the outside of the "port hole" and the same circle die that was used for the shim for the inside of the "port hole".

Since there are no sentiments included in the Under the Moon stamp set, I used a sentiment from the You are Beautiful for the card front.  The sentiment was die cut with a Stylish Shapes die.

To decorate the inside of the card I recreated the same scene as I have on the front.

The inside sentiment comes from the Sketched Butterflies Stamp Set.

WATCHING THE DOLPHINS

This week I am featuring a stamp set that I was immediately drawn to when I saw it.  However, it has taken me quite a while to start using it!

The stamp set is called Under the Moon.  It is a stand-alone stamp set so there are no coordinating dies.

The thing I am happiest with on today's card are the clouds.  Seems like a silly thing to be excited about, but I was really happy how they turned out.

To make it look like the setting sun is shining off the clouds, I first inked them with Gray Granite ink and then used my sponge dauber to add some Daffodil Delight ink to the side of the cloud that would be closest to the sun.

After stamping the sun and the center section of the water, I covered them with clear Packing Tape to make them shine.  Then, since there are no coordinating dies, I fussy cut them, but they are easy shapes to cut.

The dolphins were stamped with Basic Gray and fussy cut.  A small slit was cut in the "water" so I could slip the single dolphin's tail into it which made it look like it was part in and part out of the water.

For all the details for today's card, use this link to download a detailed tutorial.

If you aren't familiar with using Packing Tape to add shine to card elements you can watch my Learning with Friends Video where I give some tips and tricks on the technique.  Just be sure to do what I said -- not what I did.  🤣🤣🤣

When the card was finished, I looked at it and thought about what sentiment I wanted to use.  I liked the scene as it was and didn't want to cover any part of it with a greeting, but I wanted something for the inside.

The Under the Moon Stamp set does not include greetings, so I needed to find a sentiment from another set but wasn't sure what kind.  I felt like the colors, Lemon Lolly and Lost Lagoon, were cheerful, but also gave a sense of calm.  The dolphins gave a me feeling of joyful peacefulness.  So, I started searching.  I found a Get Well sentiment in the So Sincere stamp set and it seemed like a perfect choice for this card.

Get Well cards are kind of like Sympathy Cards.  It's always good to have a couple on hand in the event you need one.  Because making them at the time you need one isn't always easy.

I kept the inside clean with only a Lost Lagoon mat so I would have plenty of room to write an encouraging message.

The products I used on the card are shown below.
