POLKA DOT BIRTHDAY PIGGY

Today's card is full of sparkle and shine and I think it would be perfect for the kids in your life!

The sparkle and shine on today's card comes from a couple of different techniques for using Shimmery Embossing Paste.  The colorful polka dots were made by coloring the Shimmery White Paste with Stampin' Blends after the paste was completely dry.  The plaid background behind Piggy was made by coloring the paste itself with Reinker before applying it using an Artistic Mix Decorative Mask.

These techniques were demonstrated a couple of weeks ago on my Connect to Create Video.  If you missed it, you can watch it below or on my YouTube Channel.

If you are worried about possibly damaging your Blends by coloring on Embossing Paste, you are not alone.  I was also concerned, so I proceeded with caution.  But honestly, I had no issues.  On the dots I mainly used the brush end, but the fine tip end also worked well.  Since the dots are small, for the most part, as you can see in the video, I just dabbed the ink on each dot and didn't brush back and forth, but I did experiment with a brushing motion and did not have any issues with damaging my Stampin' Blends.  I would recommend that you keep the pressure light, but I would also make that same recommendation even if you are just coloring on cardstock.

Unfortunately, my pictures do not do justice to all the sparkle on this card!  It is so pretty!

After coloring Piggy, the cake and the balloon with Stampin' Blends, the Playful Piggy Dies made quick work of die cutting him out.  This is actually quite a simple card to make.  However, I can't really call it Quick & Simple because you do have to wait for the Shimmery Embossing Paste to dry completely, but besides that it is a quick card.

For the inside of the card, I used the flag banner die from the Playful Piggy Dies to cut a few banners from three colors of cardstock that were the same colors I used for my polka dots.

I hope you like today's card, and if you haven't tried using Embossing Paste that the technique video and this card will encourage you to try it.

  1. What a cool way to use the masks for a background, and then color them! So creative! The video was very helpful, and I really like the shirt you wore in it. Very tropical and summery :)
