I'm starting the week with my Pal from the Bayou. Let's call her Ava.
I'm not sure if Ava is a crocodile or an alligator. Do you know how to tell? Google told me that Alligators are dark colored with a broad, rounded snout and are usually found in fresh water. Crocodiles are grayish-green and prefer coastal and salt-water habitats, and their snout is narrow, tapered and triangular. I'm still not sure which she is, but I also learned that crocodiles are more aggressive, so I'm going to say Ava is an Alligator because she looks friendly.
Ava is gracing the cover of a Matchbook Fun Fold. The portion of the card that she is on tucks under the flap on the right to hold the card closed -- just like a matchbook.
The vegetation that Ava is trying to hide in was created with the Jungle Pals Dies as were the branches overhead.
Her fresh water and sky were made with the Let's Go Fishing and Fresh as a Daisy Designer Series Paper collections. I tore the bottom edge of the sky to give it a little texture and then used my Sponge Dauber to add Boho Blue ink to the torn edge.
The vertical sentiment from So Sincere works perfectly on the flap of the matchbook.
Ava insisted that she also needed to be on the inside of the card, and even though Google said Alligators are less aggressive, I wasn't going to take a chance, so I complied with her request.
The leaves in the upper corner were also die cut with Jungle Pals dies.
In a recent newsletter I shared the tip to use blending brushes to add color variation to your cardstock before die cutting it. I followed my tip and blended some Soft Sea Foam and Old Olive ink on Soft Sea Foam cardstock before die cutting. This color variation better represents what we actually see in nature and it also adds an appearance of depth to the die cuts.
