COUNTRY WOODS HERRINGBONE - MASCULINE BIRTHDAY

It is the last Sunday of the month and that means it is time for the monthly Share It Sunday Blog Hop with Crafty Collaborations.

I recently did a little research on Herringbone patterns and I found several paper crafting video tutorials on how to make them, but none of them really looked like a "true" herringbone pattern to me.  So I decided to try to see if I could create one.

This is one of the cards I came up with.  It is simple in color and keeps the herringbone technique as the focus.

The herringbone pattern was made with designer series paper from Stampin' Up!'s Country Woods collection.

I created a Learning with Friends video to demonstrate how to make this more realistic herringbone pattern and in the video I also contrast it to the more typical pattern I found for paper crafting.

Here is a close-up photo of the card to better see the herringbone pattern.

The Happy Birthday die cut was made with the Wanted To Day dies.  Keeping everything simple I just matted the herringbone technique sheet on Basic Black before adhering it to my Thick Basic White card base.

Three Black Matte dots completed the card front.

When I make my technique sheets I usually make them larger than my final desired size.  That allows me to usually have some "extra" strips after I trim them to size.  These strips work great to carry the theme of the technique to the inside of the card.

In the case of today's card, I had about a 1/2" leftover "scrap" that I used to decorate the bottom of the inside of the card.

What do you think of my Herringbone Technique?  I'd love to know if you think you will try it.

Use this link to download a PDF Tutorial for today's card.

A list of the current products used are shown below.  The Classic Matte Dots that I used are retired but were on the Clearance Rack the last time I checked--and they were 60% off.  Unfortunately Clearance Rack Items are only available while supplies last but it might be worth checking to see if they are still available.

Enjoy hopping along with the other talented Crafty Collaborators and being inspired.
