FRIENDS AND FULL OF LIFE

For my last card this week, I am using the Full of Life Designer Series Paper (DSP) which is probably one of my favorite DSP designs ever!  This paper is part of the Full of Life Suite that includes the Friends for Life Stamp Set and Dies.

This paper is bright with colorful and fun patterns, and it just makes me smile.  For today's card I used my FSF Sketch # 6.

I love combining sketches and designer series paper.  Watch my Learning with Friends Template Time video to see other ideas for this sketch.

Sketches are a great source of inspiration when your creative mojo is in a slump.  They are often also a great way to show off various patterns from a DSP collection because they frequently have multiple layers in different shapes.

For this card I used three different patterns from the Full of Life DSP.  Now, remember!  A sketch is a "guide"; an "inspiration".  If you choose, you can use the sketch literally, or you can modify it so it better suits whatever stamps or paper you are using.

For my card today, I kept the same basic layout as is shown in the sketch, but I added Basic Black Mats to the rectangular element and the flag element.  I also modified the size of the circle so my die cut heart would fit.  With a larger circle, I needed to increase the size of the rectangle a bit, but that is OK.  It is a sketch!  It is not necessarily meant to be an exact pattern to follow.

The sketch above does show dimensions, but you can also download a free tutorial  at this link to see how I modified them to better adapt them to my card.

For the inside of my card I reverted to my go-to solution -- a simple strip of DSP matted with the color of the card base.

I also wanted to use leftover scraps for my envelop flap, but none of the scraps of the designs I used were quite large enough to cover the complete flap.  So rather than cut into a new piece of DSP (Yes, it is a favorite, so I'm hoarding it!), I used two scraps and added a narrow strip of black to cover the seam where they meet.  It works, don't you think?
