CONEFLOWER INSPIRATIONS

The black and white woven background on this card makes me feel nostalgic.  Does black and white tile make you think "retro?"  There must have been someone in my childhood that had black and white tiles!  Not in our house, but it's somewhere in my memory.

This background was made with the Faux Tile Backsplash Technique, and it is mad by weaving strips of black and white cardstock.  Once the weaving is completed, the surface is covered with VersaMark and heat embossed with Clear Embossing Powder.  That heat embossing makes it look like glossy tiles in a backsplash.

I demonstrated this technique on Learning with Friends a few weeks ago.  If you missed the video, you can always watch the replay.

Once I had my black and white tile background completed, I debated on what color to use for my Coneflower and the mat layer.  I went back and forth between pink and yellow and finally decided on the cheery Lemon Lolly Yellow.

The dies that come with the Coneflower Celebrations Bundle provide the option of having your flower open! So, my flower has a secret place to add another greeting.

Isn't that fun? I love it, and I think it deserves a little closer look.

The stems and leaves were stamped with Granny Apple Green ink on Granny Apple Green Cardstock.  Lucky me -- no fussy cutting required because they have coordinating dies!

The messy Bakers Twine "bow" was tucked behind the sentiment.  No, it isn't a real bow.  It's a faux bow.  I didn't want it to look too "structured," as I thought the black and white tiles provided enough "structure".  The card needed a little messy whimsy.  Or maybe that was just my excuse because I'm not good at making bows!

The inside of the card was matted in Lemon Lolly.  All sentiments on the card were stamped with Pecan Pie ink to soften the starkness of the black and white just a bit.
