STRIPES, DOTS & PRETTY FLORALS

There are two different techniques that you can use to create the Stripes & Dots background for this card.

Technique I used

If you have a Stamp Positioner Tool like Stampin' Up!'s retired Stamparatus, or a Misti Stamping Tool you can create the background as follows:

1. Place all 4 stamps on the stamp positioner place directly next to each other.
2. Mask the stamp leaving only the section uncovered that you are going to stamp.
3. Ink that top section with Bubble Bath ink.
4. Remove the mask and stamp the top section on Basic White cardstock.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 for the 3 remaining sections using Pretty Peacock ink on the 2nd on bottom sections and Berry Burst ink on the 3rd from the top section.
6. Now that your complete image is stamped, leave your cardstock and stamp in position on the positioning tool.  Clean the stamp well and ink with VersaMark ink.
7. Use an embossing buddy on the stamped image.
8. Stamp the complete image with VersaMark and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.

If you do not have a Stamp Positioning Tool, use this Alternative Method: 

• Use the Colored Embossing Technique by stamping and completing each section individually.

If you are not familiar with this Technique here is a video demonstrating how to do it.

Either method will provide the same effect.  Use the tools you have and the process you prefer.

For the focal point I die cut a circle with a Stylish Shapes die and then in keeping with the Stripes and Dots theme I embossed it with the Dotted Circles embossing folder.

The flowers were created with the Pretty Florals Bundle using the same colors as the stripes and dots background.  The sentiment is from The Right Words stamp set.

On the inside of the card and the envelope I stamped a narrow border mimicking the card front -- except I did not heat emboss the stamped images.

LOVE THE CATTY

Today's card is CASEd (Copy And Share Everything) from the Stampin' Up! catalog.  I changed the colors to use a couple of the new colors, but the layout is exactly the same as the card in the catalog.

It took me a bit of experimenting to figure out how Stampin' Up!'s designer created the tri-color background, and after I made mine, I figured out a much easier way to do it.  Do things ever work that way for you too?  After you do it the "hard" way, do you often find an easier way?  We learn as we go, right?  

The easier method will use a little more cardstock, but you'll end up with 3 card fronts rather than one.  So, if you are someone who likes to make multiples of the same card, then definitely use Option 2 on my free tutorial.  You can download a copy of that tutorial with this link.

After you create the front with the 3 angled color pieces, simply die-cut it with the Dots & Spots Die.  Layering the bright colors on the darker Night of Navy card base really emphasizes the dots.

The flowers were made using the Colored Embossing Technique that I demonstrated on a Connect to Create Video a few weeks ago.  If you missed it, you can watch the replay below.  

I love being able to heat emboss in any color!  The embossed colors seem to look a little brighter than images just stamped.

The layer of vellum below the flowers "calms" the bright dotted background just a bit to make the flowers stand out.  When I saw this card in the catalog (page 109), I knew I needed to CASE it!  What do you think of this layout?

Because the word dies included in the Love you Dies group some of the words on the same die, I ended up with all the words.  I only wanted to use the Love You on the front so the "so", "much", and "for" were left over.  I tossed the "for" and used the other two words on the inside of my card.  All the words were also created with the Colored Embossing Technique and Night of Navy ink, so they are nice and shiny!

THINKING OF YOU WITH LASTING LOVE

This week I will be using the Lovely & Lasting Bundle.  This bundle includes the Lovely & Lasting Stamp Set and the Lasting Label Punch.  

My card today utilizes one of my favorite go-to layouts.  There is something about the diagonal on the card front that seems to always look fresh -- even though I have used it many times.

To create the diagonal for this card I used my Stamparatus to stamp the "tile" stamp multiple times with Daffodil Delight ink.  I then fussy cut it so that the little points and divots really showed.

The flower was made by using the colored embossing technique.  We have metallic and basic embossing powder colors, but what if you want a different embossed color -- like Gorgeous Grape?  Well, it's easy to do.  Just ink your stamp with VersaMark ink followed by the ink color of your choice.  WARNING!!  Just be sure to ink the stamp in that order.  Do not ink the stamp with the colored ink first because then when you add the layer of VersaMark, the colored ink will be all over your VersaMark Pad!  Not that I've ever done that before!  LOL

After you stamp your image, just emboss it with Clear Embossing Powder, and you will have a beautiful glossing shine!

This bundle does not include coordinating dies -- only the label punch -- so I fussy cut the flowers.  I stamped the complete flower with Granny Apple Green ink first and fussy cut that.  Then I stamped it again using the colored embossing powder technique with Gorgeous Grape ink and clear embossing powder.  For this layer I only fussy cut the flowers.  The two small flowers were adhered directly to the Granny Apple Green and then the two large flowers were popped up with dimensionals.

I could have used the Quatrefoil Embossing Folder (which is part of the Product Suite) to emboss the top half of the card, but I decided to use the Pretty Flowers embossing folder because I thought the flowers went very nicely with this Lovely & Lasting flower image.

This stamp set includes several sentiments that all fit perfectly on the Lasting Label.  I also love that there is a border that coordinates with the punch as well as several smaller stamps that are designed to work within the design of the border.

For the inside of the card and the envelope I stamped a row of Daffodil Delight Tiles to tie the design to the diagonal on the card front.
