BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS PIN WHEEL FUN FOLD

Today's card, made with the Vertical Blooms stamp set features a bright and happy Pin Wheel Fun Fold and Partial Embossing.

This happy designer series paper (DSP) is from the Bright and Beautiful Collection. See the Product List below for more information and additional designs included in this DSP pack.

To learn how to make the fun Pin Wheel Fun Fold and the Partial Embossing Technique used on this card I thought a short video might be helpful to demonstrate how to do both. Click on the photo to view the video in YouTube.

This pinwheel Fun Fold also has a surprise! When you open (or unfold) the pinwheel, inside there is a place for a message!

Isn't that fun? I'm just wondering if the recipient of the card will even look inside! Would you?

The left portion of the card front (the part behind the pinwheel) is also embossed. It doesn't show too well in the photo, but this is another simple technique to give your cards just a little bit of WOW. I also demonstrated how to do partial embossing in the video, so I hope you will watch.

By only partially embossing the Basic White cardstock, a flat surface remains on the right where I could stamp the thank you sentiment from Vertical Blooms.

I added a bit of retired Lemon Lime Twist Ribbon from my stash to the right of the pinwheel out of "necessity" not by design. Messy-me must have had ink on my fingers. I got a smudge in that area, so I needed to cover it up! That happens to us all, right? What is your favorite way to hide a boo-boo?

If you don't "need" the ribbon, leave it off! I'm still not sure if it was a "happy" mistake or not. I think the card would look great without the ribbon.

If you watched the video, you saw that you end up with 4 little square scraps of DSP. Well, I am not one to let perfectly good scraps go to waste, so I used 3 of mine to decorate the edge on the inside of the card.

AUTUMN THANKS

This week I am featuring a beautiful new suite of Products from the 2023 Fall Mini Catalog. It is called All About Autumn. My favorite products in the Suite are the two Specialty Designer Series Paper Collections, but the stamp set also intrigued me. It is leaves that has stems stamped separately from the main part of the leaf.

I liked this idea because often the stems and veins in leaves are a little different color from the main part of the leaf. Here in Michigan this is especially true in the fall when our leaves start turning color.

The background for today's card was created using the Partial Embossing Technique and a mask from Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks--another sneak peek product from the Fall Mini.

To make the background I first placed masking paper over the vertical strip where I planned to stamp my sentiment. Then I placed the Decorative Mask over the Basic White cardstock and used my Blending Brushes to color the leaves. I used Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze and Old Olive inks, my go-to autumn colors, for blending.

After blending the leaves, I removed the Masking Paper and stamped my sentiment from Vertical Blooms with Cajun Craze ink. The next step was to use the Partial Embossing Technique to provide texture on each side of the sentiment. I embossed the right side of the sentiment with the Fern 3D embossing folder and the left side with the Timber 3D embossing folder.

To finish my card, I stamped leaves on Basic White cardstock and die cut them with the coordinating dies from the Autumn Leaves Bundle. This bundle will be available September 6, 2023, when the Fall Mini Catalog goes live.

The leaves were stamped in Crushed Curry and Pumpkin Pie and then I die cut the stems from Old Olive. A small bow of Linen Thread and a few Speckled Dots from the All About Autumn Suite completed the card front.

For the inside of the card, I used a leftover leaf that I had stamped for the card front which I ended up not using.

REFRESHING FLOWERS & PARTIAL EMBOSSING

Today's card features the bouquet of flowers in the So Refreshing Bundle.

One completed flower stem in the So Refreshing stamp set is made by layering 3 different stamps. There is the stem, the outline image of the flowers and the solid (fill-in) image of the flowers.

Being totally transparent, it took me a bit of trial and error to figure out how to align these three stamps. My hint is... Stamp the stem last!

Stamp the outline image of the flowers first. Then it is extremely easy to align the solid image of the flowers within the outline image. For my two stems I used Lemon Lolly and Calypso Coral. The outline image was stamped with full-strength ink and the solid image was stamped with the same color stamped-off ink.

Once I had my flowers it was easy to see where to align the stem. When I stamped the stem first, I had a more challenging time figuring out where to stamp the flowers.

A few weeks ago, Kathi Ondus, my good friend and Connect to Create Collaborator, shared a technique that has been extremely popular on our YouTube channels. It is called Partial Embossing. In one of her cards, she used two different embossing folders to emboss the upper and lower portion of the card front. I had not used this technique before, so decided to try it on today's card. The two sections are separated by a non-embossed area where the sentiment can be stamped. She then used the Simply Scored Tool to emboss a straight line across the upper and lower edges of the non-embossed area. Look closely and you can see that embossed line in the above photo. I love how that finishes off the look. As mom would have said, "It just does something to it".

To decorate the inside of my card I simply stamped another of the flower stems in Calypso Coral and added a sentiment from the Something Fancy stamp set.
