AN OWL FLY BY

I'm giving you a sneak peek at another Sale-a-Bration item today.  Of course, I'm using this week's featured stamp set again, Adorable Owls, but the gorgeous floral Designer Series Paper called Favored Flowers is also a Sale-a-Bration item.  This paper has lots of beautiful deep rich colors including one of my favorites, Blackberry Bliss.  It also coordinates with a new bundle in the Mini card Fragrant Flowers.  If you love flowers, this set may call your name!

You can see the beautiful Favored Flowers paper peeking out from behind the Split Card Textures die cut.  This particular floral pattern has Petal Pink, Calypso Coral, and Evening Evergreen colors, so I used those to choose the color of my cardstock.  The card base is made from Evening Evergreen and the die cut is from Petal Pink.

I struggle with picking color combinations and using colors from Designer Series Paper (DSP) makes it so much easier.   Always remember that DSP make a great color coach!

Today, I decided to use the third owl in the set, this cute little flying owl.  I also experimented a bit with different colors.  I'll admit, I did some Googling to figure out which colors owls come in, but after looking at lots of pictures, I still wasn't sure about colors.  The photos show such beautiful color variation on the feathers, but that level of artistic skill is beyond me.  To see which Stampin' Blends colors I used, please click on this link for the Free Tutorial which will give you all the details.

The dots behind the Owls were made with the Hand-Drawn Dots stamp.  I received this stamp during Prize Patrol at OnStage in November.  I wasn't sure how I would use it, but after playing with it this week on a couple of cards (this was the first if you missed it), I really like it!

The upper Petal Pink corner of the card was looking a little blah, but I wasn't sure what to do about it.  I thought about embossing it with an embossing folder but wasn't sure that the die cut section of the cardstock would survive embossing.  Then I remembered the VersaMark stamping technique.  The VersaMark gives a nice subtle effect.  I forget about using that technique.  The VersaMark dots added just the contrast it needed.  Mom would have said, "It just does something to it!"

I thought that the sentiment that says HOOT! HOOT, You're so cute! was really adorable, but I wasn't sure who I would send a "you're so cute!" card to, so I used the masking technique to hide that part of the sentiment before I Heat Embossed it with white embossing powder on the Evening Evergreen cardstock.

Since I'm running a low on Thank You cards, I added a simple Thank You stamped on the inside of the card in Evening Evergreen ink.  This sentiment is from a new sentiment set in the Spring Mini called Happy Labels.  It has 12 very nice versatile sentiments.

I probably need another sentiment set like I need a hole in my head.  It's an addiction.  Some people have a Designer Series Paper addiction.  I have a sentiment set addiction!

    ADORABLE BIRTHDAY OWL

Today's card is a simple Birthday Card using the Adorable Owls Sale-a-Bration Stamp set which is the stamp set I am featuring all week.

If you are new to Fairless Stampin' Flair, I feature a specific Bundle or Stamp set each week so that I can give you multiple ideas for ways you can use the featured product.

The Adorable Owls is a Sale-a-Bration stamp set that you will be able to select for FREE when you place an order of $50.  Sale-a-Bration starts on January 5, so you can't get him yet, but starting on Thursday, you will be able to choose him.

These little owls are so cute and today I am using the Birthday Owl.  I guess he doesn't have to be a Birthday Owl, he could really just be a Party Owl because he has a party hat.  But I've decided to make him a Birthday Owl because I'm running low on Birthday cards.  I have lots of November and December birthdays in my "circle", so I used a lot of my birthday cards.

Other than Christmas Cards, Birthday cards may be my favorite kind of cards to make.   They are certainly more fun than Sympathy or Get Well cards because they are happy cards, so you can get a bit silly and have some fun with them

This little Owl is the perfect stamp set to have fun with.

I used one of my new favorite color combinations, Night of Navy, and Parakeet Party.  The Designer Series Paper (DSP) background is from the Dainty Flowers DSP Collection, which is another Sale-a-Bration choice with a $50 order.  This paper has beautiful flowers on one side and awesome backgrounds on the other.  Plus, it coordinates with a new bundle called Dainty Delight in the Spring Mini.  The Mini catalog also goes LIVE on Thursday, January 5, so you can check it all out then.

For today's card, I also used a new background stamp from the 2023 January - April Mini Catalog called Hand-Drawn Dots.  To add a bit of color interest, I inked the stamp in an ombre color pattern of Night of Navy, Pacific Point and Balmy Blue.

The Owl is colored with Stampin' Blends, and if you would like to see the colors I used, you can download a FREE TUTORIAL at this link, to get all the specifics.

I used another strip of the Dainty Flowers DSP to decorate the edge of the inside of the card.  The first sentiment is from Happy Labels, a new sentiment stamp set in the Spring Mini, and the Happy Birthday sentiment is from a current set in the Annual Catalog called Celebrating You.

The Happy Birthday portion of the inside sentiments was a "happy mistake".  When I stamped it, I apparently had some ink on the edge of the stamp, so I ended up with a halo of ink where I didn't want it.   Rather than start everything over, I decided to just stamp it again on another scrap and mat it to a Night of Navy mat.  I actually like how it turned out -- probably better than the planned design, so that's I why I call it a "happy mistake".

I'm sure many can relate to getting a spot of ink where you don't want it!  How do you fix them?  Embellishments like pearls and rhinestones work well, but my "oops" was way too big for those, so this was my solution.  What do you think?

      WISHING YOU JOY IN 2023

Happy New Year!  I pray this year brings you Joy!

This cute little owl is from the Adorable Owls Sale-a-Bration stamp set which I will be featuring all this week.  These little guys are so cute, so I hope you enjoy them.  This stamp set will be available January 5 as one of the FREE Sale-a-Bration selections you can choose when you place a $50 order.

Today my owl is filling in for the letter "O", and he's all dressed up in his bow tie and ready to celebrate the New Year.

The die cut letters were made with a retired set of dies I still have.  There are some things that are just worth hanging on to.

But if you don't already have any "larger" letter dies, you will be able to get some of your own on January 5 when the January - April Mini catalog goes live.  There is a new set of alphabet dies in the new Mini called ALPHABET A LA MODE, and they are very similar to the retired set I used.  In fact, they are closer in height to the height of my little owl, so they would work perfectly to do something like this!

The pretty animal print designer series paper that you see in the background (and on the envelop flap) is also a new collection from the Mini catalog called Like and Animal.  The pattern I chose for today's card has a silver foil animal print, but there are also gold designs and some very pretty non-foiled animal prints.  If you are a fan of animal prints, you are definitely going to want to check out this collection.

I colored my New Year's Owl with Stampin' Blends, and if you would like to know the colors I used, you can download a complete tutorial at this link with all the details.

I really wanted to make him a Snow Owl, but he didn't show up very well on my card, so I had to change my plan, but I think he still turned out cute.  What do you think?

For the inside of my New Year's card, I used a recipe that the pastor at my church shared during our Christmas service.  He said he often uses this recipe as part of his message at weddings.

It resonated with me, and I thought it made a nice wish for a Happy New Year card, so I decided I would share!

Wishing you all a Very Blessed 2023!
