Well, I've made it to post # 2! There were definitely some growing pains with post # 1 on Monday, so we'll see how this one goes today😅.

I had fun making today's card. Usually I have a fairly clear plan for a card before I start, but today -- not so much! It just sort of evolved. I knew I wanted to try some blending with one of my new favorite tools -- the Blending Brushes. So I made a couple of masks using the tree limb die from the "coming soon" Harvest Dies. The Harvest Meadow Suite will be available on August 3 when the Fall Mini Catalog launches.
I laid the two masks on Basic White Cardstock and then used my Blending Brushes to "color" over them with Pool Party Ink. I was happy with how the branch pattern popped and thought it would make a pretty background. So I then moved on to figuring out what to put on top of it. I tried a few of the dies and finally settled on using the wheat (at least I think it's wheat) and the cone flower (or do you call it a Black Eyed Susan?).
I die cut the plants from watercolor paper and then color washed them with Water Painters and reinkers. I thought the flower should be yellow, but I wasn't so sure about the wheat. I started out making it yellow also, but, I'll be honest, that didn't look so great. I had already washed the stems of both plants with Shaded Spruce, so I decided to add a very light wash of Shaded Spruce on top of the yellow wheat. I figured if it looked terrible, I could start over because the bright yellow was definitely not working. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it is not the color of wheat, but I liked it so called it "good". After all, it's ART, right? I gave myself some "artistic liberty". I added a few splatters of basic gray ink to the cone flower and then painted the flower and wheat with Wink of Stella to give them a little sparkle. I my world you can never have too much sparkle and shine!
Once the plants were colored, it was all about assembly and some finishing touches. I love the new Brushed Metallic Adhesive Dots that are part of this Harvest Meadow Suite. I used the copper color ones, and as my mom would have said "they just do something" to it.
I practiced my blending technique a little more on the inside of the card and the envelop. My rule: No naked insides or envelopes! They don't need a lot of "dressing", but they need a little something.
