LAKE IN THE MOUNTAINS AT SUNSET

On Monday we sat in a beautiful birch tree grove watching the Northern Lights.  Today we are traveling to the shore of a mountain lake.  Let's sit here a while and enjoy the view!

Which do you prefer?  Walking through the woods?  Or sitting on the side of lake?  I bet you can guess which one I would choose!

This style of card is one that I really enjoy making.  I may need to do it several times before I'm satisfied with it, but for some reason I have more patience when making these type of cards than any other type.

For the mountains I used a sponge dauber to add color to the stamp.  I started with Pumpkin Pie on the mountain peaks; added Cajun Craze in the middle of the range and then Smokey Slate at the bottom of the mountain range.

Once I had the mountains the way I wanted them, I masked them and created the sky, lake and sandy shore with Blending Brushes and Sponge Daubers.  The birds are from a retired stamp set called, On the Horizon.  None of my current stamp sets have birds like this in them, so I am really glad I kept a retired set that does!

If you would like step-by-step directions of how I created this card you can download a written tutorial at this link.

It doesn't show on the photo, but Wink of Stella makes the water sparkle as the sun sets behind the mountains.  Can you see the shadows in the water?

I debated quite a while and tried several different locations for a sentiment on the card front, but there was not a spot that I really wanted to cover up, so I skipped a front sentiment.

Since there are no sentiments included in the In the Grove stamp set I searched through my large stash of sentiments and found this one in the So Sincere stamp set.  Obviously, any sentiment could be used on this card but since sitting looking out at the water brings joy to my heart, this one seemed perfect.  I'm hoping this card will bring joy to someone's heart when they find it in their mailbox!

I mentioned that I often end up making several "test pieces" of cards like this before I get one that I'm satisfied with.  The great thing about that is that I have "extra pieces" that I can cut up and use the sections I like to decorate the inside and the envelope.  You can see in the photos that is what I did for this card.
