FEATHERED FRIENDS PERCHED IN A TREE

While Monday's Feathered Fun card was bright and cheerful, today's card has a beautiful but definitely a moodier background.

I didn't realize that this Everyday Skies Designer Series Paper (DSP) is retired until after I made the card.  But since I love this DSP so much, I decided to share the anyway.  Obviously, you can substitute any DSP you have.

This particular DSP design reminds me of a sky where the sun trying to make one last beautiful statement before it says goodbye for the night.

I used different coloring mediums to create each of these feathered friends.  They are sharing final "tweets" before they say goodnight and return to their nests.

Peety on the left was watercolored on watercolor paper with ink Refills and Water Painters.  Cranberry and Scarlet in the center where colored with Stampin' Blends, and Ollie on the right was colored with Watercolor Pencils.

To learn my tips and tricks for each of these coloring mediums watch my Exploring Coloring Video.  I color the same three images in the video using the same coloring medium for each.  I changed up the colors on a couple of the birds, and the card is quite different, but the coloring tips and tricks all apply.  I just wanted to give you another inspiration card using this Feathered Fun stamp set.

Did you watch?  Which is your favorite card?  Which tip taught you something new?

On today's card the branches from Feathered Fun were stamped with Black Memento ink across the DSP.  I then stamped many, many, leaves with Mossy Meadow ink on Mossy Meadow cardstock and fussy cut them.  (This was another reason I wanted to make a different card in the video.  I didn't want to cut all those leaves again!). LOL

After trimming the 6" x 6" DSP to 5-1/4" x 4" for the card front, I had a leftover strip that I used for the inside of the card.

Both the front and inside sentiments are from Banner Sayings.

FEATHERED FRIEND SUSPENDED FUN FOLD

Today's card is a Suspended Book Fun Fold.  I first saw this card on Jan B's website, a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator from the UK.  Her card was a 5" X 7" card, but I wanted to make it in our "normal" A2 size.

It took a bit of trial and error, but I finally came up with proportions I liked.

The center section of the fun fold is the "book".  It is suspended on mechanisms that hold the book in space.

I demonstrated a version of this card in my Learning with Friends Video yesterday.  It is probably much easier to understand if you watch the video.

I used designer series paper from the Beautiful Gallery Collection.  The "book" uses one of the scenes from this beautiful DSP.

I added one of the cute little birds from Feathered Fun in the foreground of the scene.  I can imagine him thinking about where he should build his nest in the weatherworn building.

The white die cut stem and the sentiment are from the Beautiful Motifs Bundle.

I'm not sure what type of bird this is.  It could probably be colored to make it a variety of species, but I just wanted him to be cute and colorful so I used Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Blends.

The front of this card flips open to provide plenty of space on the inside for a Greeting or a personalized note.

PARROT FEATHERED FRIEND

Polly the Parrot wants to say hi to you today!  She's feeling a little sassy because she thinks she is pretty with all her colors.

She is very colorful as she was colored with a lot of different colored Stampin' Blends.  I think the person coloring her couldn't decide what color Polly should be!

Polly's perch is also sitting on an interesting card layout.

Who remembers the days when we would get our card ideas from magazines?  As I've been updating and organizing my crafting area, I found some old card magazines.  I've been determined for the last few week to reduce the size of my crafting stash, so, I was just going to toss my stack of old magazines, but does anyone else have a difficult time throwing things away without at least looking at them first?  Well, I saw a card in one of those old magazines that had a card layout with triangles on it.  I worked on it for a bit and finally figured out that the card in the magazine was a very unique sized fun fold that was not working for me at all.

But it did provide inspiration!  My card is not a fun fold and is a standard size 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" card.  But I did incorporate triangles!

The card base is Basic Beige and the triangles are made with the Season of Elegance Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP).

Here is a close-up of Polly with all of her beautiful colors on display.  For the coloring details refer to the tutorial.  You can download a copy at this link.

The sentiment from Beautiful Motifs Stamp Set was stamped with Mossy Meadow ink and then matted to a scrap of Season of Elegance DSP.  The angles of the sentiment and mat were snipped to follow the lines of the triangles.

Another strip of the DSP was used to decorate the inside of the card.
