LADYBUG TWISTS

Use the Twisted Ribbon Technique and the Hello Ladybug stamp set to create this cute card.

These cute little ladybugs are marching up and down the twisted ribbon on this card. The idea was "inspired" by what I often see this time of year on my south facing windows and screens. As soon as the sun comes out and warms the windows up a bit, the Japanese Beetles come out of hiding and like to sun themselves on my windows. I try not to think about where they have been hiding all winter because they sure find their way to my windows quickly. I know Japanese Beetles aren't truly ladybugs, but except for the wings, they look a lot alike.

The designer series paper used on today's card is the Delightfully Eclectic Collection, and it is on the Last Chance List as is the Hello Ladybug stamp set and coordinating punch. Today's ladybugs had to be fussy cut as this is a different lady than the one that can be punched. But they were very easy to fussy cut.

This technique is a fun and unique way to use up some of those scrap strips of designer series paper (DSP).

The colors on the card were taken from the DSP. The card base is Night of Navy. The Twisted Ribbon assembly is Bubble Bath, Night of Navy and Basic White. The embossed layer on the card front is Fresh Freesia. The Ladybugs were stamped with Black Memento and Calypso Coral, also a color in the DSP.

The large leaf was inked with Garden Green, a color also in the DSP, and then stamped off twice before stamping it on Basic White. By stamping off twice, the color was light enough to use the leaf as my sentiment. Flowers are Bubble Bath, Fresh Freesia and Calypso Coral.

Color coordination is one of the things I struggle with so using the DSP as the color inspiration is the easiest way for me to coordinate colors.

The inside of the card was matted on Fresh Freesia and a strip of the same DSP was used to provide a pop of color.

GLAMOROUS LADYBUG

Ms. Ladybug today is all decked out in her best silver and gold jewelry, and she is ready to party in the ferns.

Her ferns were made with the Debossed Inky Resist Technique. I found this technique recently on Splitcoast Stampers, and it was new to me, so I wanted to try it. It is similar to some other emboss resist techniques, but it adds the twist of using an embossing folder to add VersaMark ink to Watercolor Paper in the "debossed" areas of the embossing folder. Then you heat emboss with either clear or white embossing powder. Typically, with an embossed resist technique we use Blending Brushes, Sponge Daubers, or some other similar tool to add the ink colors after heat embossing, but this technique also has a unique way of adding the color.

As I indicated above, Ms. Ladybug is all dressed up in silver and gold. Her body is heat- embossed in gold and her wings are heat-embossed in silver.

The large leaf from Hello Ladybug is stamped in Shaded Spruce, which is one of the several different greens I used in the Debossed Inky Resist Technique, and it is also the color of the cardstock behind the Technique Sheet.

I added a few swirls of gold cord from Simply Elegant trim behind the leaf to provide an illusion of movement. I wanted to keep my Ladybug focal point and the sentiment small because I really wanted to showcase this pretty technique.

The inside of the card was kept even more simple with a single Shaded Spruce stamped sentiment from Sunny Sentiments. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that this stamp set was retired until I went to write up this post, but that's OK. (Sometimes it is difficult to keep track of what recently retired.) You should always use whatever sentiments you have.

I added a single Shaded Spruce mat to give the finishing touch. If you know me, my mantra is "no naked insides", and the sentiment looked lonely all by itself surrounded only by white. So, I felt it needed a little bit of color to set it off.

PRETTY IN PINK

I needed a card last week for a color challenge, and since I was already making cards with the Hello Ladybug stamp set, I decided to ease my workload and have one card do double duty.

I made a simple Fun Fold card. The smaller front panel was die cut with the Deckled Rectangle dies and it attaches and opens with the narrow hinge on the left.

Below are the colors of the color challenge.

The card base and one Ladybug were made with Basic Gray, and the front flap, hinge and the 2nd upper Ladybug were made from Smokey Slate.

The 3rd color of the challenge was Bubble Bath, so I gave both Ladybugs Bubble Bath Wings and some Bubble Bath flowers to fly around. On my Monday card I used the Bright & Beautiful Designer Series Paper, and I used another design from that collection today to provide the background for the inside of the card. Isn't the ombre Bubble Bath pretty?

The Ladybug stamp set includes a daisy stamp which I used for both the card front and the inside of the hinged flap.

A touch of Berry Burst ink on the tips of the petals adds a little more depth and dimension to the daisies.

All flowers on the card have centers of Iridescent Rhinestones which gives them a nice, but subtle bit of sparkle.

This was a fun FUN-FOLD card to make. It's simple and doesn't require any complicated scoring, cutting, or folding. I also like the fact that it gives you three different surfaces to decorate so you can create a bit of a "story" as you turn the page.

On my daisies I added a few speckles to provide additional dimension and depth. If you missed the video on how to easily make speckles with your Stampin' Write Markers, you can catch the replay below.
