GOODBYE TO NOTES OF NATURE

It seems like I just fell in love with this Notes of Nature bundle, and it is leaving us already!  This is definitely a stamp set I was hoping would carry over into the new catalog or ONLINE EXCLUSIVES, but alas, it is not.

Today's card is a collage card made with a Pebbled Path card base and the Natures Sweetness Designer Series Paper (DSP).  This DSP is a gorgeous Specialty collection with lots of gold foiled accents.  Thankfully, this DSP is carrying over into the 24-25 new Annual Catalog.  That makes me happy!

I used two different patterns of the DSP for this card -- the White and Gold "plaid" design and the Pebbled Bath and Gold script.

I used various stamps from the Notes of Nature Stamp set to create the little sentiment birthday collage on Watercolor Paper.   Can you find the birthday sentiment?   Ink colors used for stamping were Pebbled Path, Copper Clay, Mossy Meadow and Black.  After stamping a Water Painter was used to grunge up the sentiment a bit.

I rarely make collage cards, and I don't feel like I am very good at them.  I love seeing this style of card, so I'm trying to practice and get better at them.  Do you have a style that you feel you need to practice?  The three little leaf stems were also all made with Watercolor Paper.  The larger one was stamped and then watercolored with Mossy Meadow ink.  The two other stems were die cut and then watercolored with Pebbled Path and Copper Clay.  All three were tucked behind the upper left corner to add some texture to the card.

The sentiment and Pebbled Path Script DSP were die cut with the Scalloped Contours Dies.  This is a die set that has been around for a while, and it is retiring at the end of the month.  These dies are 30% off while supplies last.

I added my favorite birthday sentiment from Happy Labels (also on the Last Chance List)  to the inside of the card, and then finished it off with a strip of the same DSP as used on the card front.

FROSTED FILTER NOTES OF NATURE

The background for the leaf stem on today's card was made using the Frosted Filter Technique.

This technique requires minimal supplies, is easy, fun and a little messy!  In other words, just my style.  For some reason, I like messy.  I don't necessarily like cleaning up the mess, but I think a beautiful result is worth a little mess!  And this "mess" is easily contained if you are prepared.

If you aren't familiar with this Frosted Filter Technique watch the Learning with Friends replay on my YouTube Channel and you will see just how easy it is.  I hope you grab your rubber gloves and give it a try.

As I mentioned in the video, the most difficult thing about this technique is choosing which colors reinkers to use.  For this card I used Petal Pink, Old Olive and Wild Wheat.  It's a bit of an unusual combination, but I was going for kind of a moody, aged feel to the card.

After completing the technique element and wrapping it on a piece of Wild Wheat cardstock, I stamped it with the Notes of Nature stamp to give it a little more "grunge".

The leafy stem die was one of the mail reasons I purchased the Notes of Nature Bundle.  I liked the image variety within the stamp set, but it was this and one other die in the coordinating die set that really sealed the deal for me.

I struggled a bit with coming up with a sentiment that I was visually happy with.  I first stamped the sentiment with Copper Clay ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock which really looked stark on the dark and moody card.  Then I stamped the leaf with Wild Wheat ink over the stamped sentiment, but it still was too bright.  Next I tried stamping the leaf on Wild Wheat cardstock and stamping the sentiment over the leaf, but that looked too dark. I was about to give up and go with my Very Vanilla leaf sentiment, but as I grabbed it, for fun, I laid it slightly offset behind the Wild Wheat leaf.  Voila!  The tiny edge of Very Vanilla provided the bit of "highlight" that was needed.  Sometimes we only figure things out through trial and error, right?

One of the nice things about this Frosted Filter Technique is that it generates leftover technique scraps.  I used a scrap to add a decorative strip on the inside of the card.  I also used a scrap to decorate the flap on the envelope.  There wasn't quite enough to cover the complete envelop flap, so I added a strip of Wild Wheat cardstock across the top of the flap.  The 2nd and 3rd photo in the post probably give you the best image of the envelope.

I'd love to know what you think of this technique.  I know I am looking forward to doing it again and experimenting with more colors.

NOTES OF NATURE DIE CUTS

When you are running low on creativity where do you typically go for your inspiration? I usually head over to Pinterest or turn to our Stampin' Up! catalogs.  Today's card was inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest.  It used tone-on-tone die cuts to create texture.

I had never really thought of doing this but liked the card I saw, so thought I would try it.  My two favorite dies in this Notes of Nature Bundle are the one on the center of the card that creates a line of holes sort of like you would have in notebook paper, and the long left stem.  The long leaf stem die creates leaves with lots of texture.

I die cut several stems and then cut some of them apart to make shorter sections.  After stamping some speckles on the Copper Clay card base, I added the stems to the top two-thirds of the card and covered the bottom of the stems with the Natures Sweetness designer series paper (DSP).

Next, I layered another design from Natures Sweetness DSP on Distressed Gold Specialty paper.  Since both the DSP and the Distressed Gold paper are rather lightweight, I adhered them to a backing of Basic White to add some stiffness.  I knew I wanted to weave some ribbon through the holes and then pop it up on the card front, so I needed some extra structure and stiffness for the decorative strip.

I tucked some Pebbled Path die-cut stems behind the strip, added a gold embossed sentiment on top of the strip as well as a couple of flowers stamped with Blueberry Bushel ink to provide a little pop of color.

I duplicated the decorative strip for the inside of the card.  As I wasn't sure how many stems I'd need for the front, I had die cut several, so I used a leftover to add to the inside of the card.

STAMPING WITH NOTES OF NATURE

I have a Tuesday Bonus card to share with you today.  I was having so much fun playing with the Notes of Nature Bundle that I got carried away and made an extra card.

This stamp set has such fun stamps in it that are usable to make a collage.  Creating collages are far from my comfort zone, but I wanted to give it a try.

The main colors of the card are Blueberry Bushel, Smokey Slate and Basic White.  The Blueberry color wash designer series paper (DSP) is from the Winter Meadow DSP collection.  I'm so happy this DSP is carried over from the Fall Mini.  It is beautiful and can be used for a lot more than "winter" cards, as its name would imply.

Granny Apple Green leaves were added above and below the sentiment to provide a pop of color.

The leafy leaves with stamped with Granny Apple Green ink and then colored with Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends.  The coordinating Notes of Nature dies make cutting them out easy.

The smaller die cut leaves were die cut from Granny Apple Green cardstock, and the tiniest leaves were die cut from Smokey Slate cardstock.

I kept the inside of the card very simple, but never naked.  I used a strip of the same Blueberry Bushel color wash Winter Meadow DSP to dress it up just a bit.
