FRIENDS ARE SWINGING BY

On Monday you met Crayola, and today you are going to meet three of her friends.

These little guys are much more interested in playing in a tropical jungle than in eating bananas.

At the top of the jungle is Trouble.  He is the ring leader of the group,  and that is why he is at the top!  He wouldn't let me put him any other place.  Below him are twin brothers, Max and Mort.  Can you figure out which one is which because I can't.

These three friends are playing in the ferns which were made by using the Fern 3D embossing folder and embossing Vellum Cardstock.

There are so many different ways to use Vellum Cardstock, and I often forget how pretty it is when you dry emboss it.

To learn more ideas for using vellum you can watch this Learning With Friends video.

For this card I heat embossed the branch on the Vellum with black embossing powder.  Then I colored the back side of the branch with Pecan Pie and Mossy Meadow Stampin' Blends before I embossed it.

When I make a special technique sheet for a card I often make it larger than my desired finished size.  Then I can trim it to the finished size and have "leftovers" to decorate something else.

On today's card I used a leftover piece of the embossed Vellum to add a little trim on the inside of my card.

FRIEND IN THE WOODS FOR SIMPLY MONDAY

This week I am featuring the brand new ONE HORSE OPEN SLEIGH Suite Collection.  This suite just became available as an ONLINE EXCLUSIVE last week, and I love it!  The suite includes a stamp set, coordinating dies, snowflake embellishments and GORGEOUS Designer Series Paper.

Today's Simply Monday card features mainly the Designer Series Paper.  The only stamping on this card was the sentiment!

You are definitely going to want to check out the Designer Series Paper (DSP) in the Product List at the end of this post.  The DSP has beautiful winter scenes on one side and small patterns in a variety of colors on the other side.  Honestly, with this paper and a great sentiment set you will be able to make beautiful Christmas cards very quickly.

I used the Nested Essentials and Tailor Made Tags dies to create the layout for this card.  The cute little deer was die cut from one of the DSP patterns with a Nested Essentials Die and the Mossy Meadow background behind him was also cut from the DSP with a Tailor Made Tag Die.  The pretty winter woods in the background is another of the designs from the DSP.

Copper Snowflakes were added to provide just a tiny bit of bling.

The sentiment is from the Horse & Sleigh stamp set and I like how it coordinates with the Happy New Year sentiment for the inside of the card.

To decorate the inside, I added a strip of the same DSP that was used for the vertical strip on the card front.

CUTE LITTLE GOLDFINCH PERCHED IN A TREE

It's Monday, so it's time for a new featured bundle of the week.  This week I will be using the Perched in a Tree Bundle.  This bundle does not have a huge number of different stamps and dies, but it is very versatile.  I'll be honest, when I fell in love with this set, it was the oval tree die and the cute little chubby bird that won my heart.  As I started working with the bundle this week, I was pleasantly surprised to finally notice the beautiful and versatile sentiments.

For today's card, I wanted to put something behind the beautiful tree oval die cut that would show off the trees.  Since it had been quite a while since I played with the Stampin' Blends and Alcohol on Vellum technique, I decided to try that and see if I could create a colorful abstract design behind the trees.  My goal was to use colors that would represent the sky and the colorful foliage of an autumn forest.  I'm very happy with how my second attempt turned out.  I'd forgotten that darker, more intense Stampin' Blends colors work better with this technique than the lighter pastel shades which I used on my first attempt.  Frankly, the first one was pretty blah!

I used my Blending Brushes to add a little Sahara Sand ink to the tree trunks on the oval die cut to give them some shading and add some dimension.  For all of the die cuts I used Thick Very Vanilla to give them more rigidity for popping up with dimensionals.

I colored my little chubby Goldfinch with Black, Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Blends and used the Color Lifter to provide some additional shading.  Google is a wonderful place to find plenty of examples for color inspiration!

For the die cut leaves on the branch I used the "splotch" and "speckles" stamps to cover a large enough area on Very Vanilla cardstock to be able to die cut the leaves with the die from Aspen Dies.  These were then adhered directly to the end of the stamped and die cut branch.

The sentiment from Perched in a Tree was stamped on Very Vanilla and die cut with a Tailor Made Tags die.  A couple of strands of Linen Thread were used for the double bow.

For the inside of the card, I embossed the left edge using the same embossing folder that was used on the front, Timeworn Type.  The edge where the embossed area meets the non-embossed cardstock was covered with a section of trees made using the large oval Aspen Trees die.

I covered the top of the trees with two die cuts made with the leaves die.  Before die-cutting the leaves, the Very Vanilla cardstock was stamped using the same process as for the leaves on the card front.
