250 YEARS OF BLESSINGS

 This week we are celebrating our Nation's 250 Anniversary, so I've decided to share a couple of Patriotic projects.

Today's card has a Red, White and Blue Faux Herringbone Design and it wishes the USA a Happy Birthday.

The Faux Herringbone Background is a fun way to use up scraps.  I made my Red, White & Blue Herringbone design with Real Red Cardstock and two woodgrain designs (one is mostly white and the other is mostly Navy) from the Country Woods Designer Series Paper.

If you are unfamiliar with how to create a faux Herringbone Background you can watch this video that I made a couple of years ago.  In the video I demonstrate this "faux" herringbone version as well as an alternative that creates more of a "real" herringbone pattern.

The letters on the card front were die cut with two different alphabet die sets. 


The Silver Foil letters were die cut with the Alphabet a la Mode dies and the "YEARS" letters were made with the Mini Alphabet die.

An adhesive sheet was added to the cardstock before cutting, and then all letters and numbers were cut 3 times.  I used Basic White cardstock to create the extra two layers for the Silver Foil die cuts.  The adhesive sheets makes adhering the die cuts together quick and easy.


A few stars die cut from Basic White cardstock with a die from Swirled Designs were scattered the card front and topped with a Basic Rhinestone in the the center of each.

The faux bow was made with 1/4" White Ribbon which I cut in half lengthwise to make narrow strips of ribbon.  Two of the strips were colored with Real Red and Night of Navy Stampin' Blends.  I was out of White Baker's Twine so improvised and cut down ribbon.  I really like the frayed look of the ribbon strands.


As I typically do when I create any type of technique sheet, I make is larger than I will need.  When I trim it to size this provides "scraps" that I can use to decorate the inside of the card.

SYMPATHY BLOOMS

 The Gallery Blooms Bundle and The Right Words stamp set were used for today's card.

The Gallery Blooms flower stem was heat embossed with Black Embossing Powder and then colored with Flirty Flamingo and Old Olive Watercolor Pencils.   This makes the coloring even easier because the raised image helps keep you in the lines!  😄.  After coloring, a Water Painter was used to blend the pencil color a bit.  

Watercolor Pencils are probably one of the easiest coloring mediums to use, but there are still a few tips and tricks to get the results you want.

The card base and the frame are Smokey Slate cardstock.  


I kept the color palette soft as that feels appropriate for a sympathy card.  


Both sentiments on today's card are from The Right Words Stamp set.  This is an excellent set with a nice variety of thoughtful sentiments.

GOLDEN FRIENDLY FOLIAGE

As I mentioned on Monday I liked the little different "twist" that this Friendly Foliage Bundle provides when making cards with simple stems & foliage.

Monday's card used only the "inner" die that coordinates with this stamp.  Today's card uses both the inner and the outer die.

If you compare the two cards you will see that the outer perimeter of the frame is also die cut on today's card.  The outer perimeter die cuts not only along the outside of the stamped frame, but it also cuts around the stems that protrude past the frame.


The Basic Beige checked designer series paper is from the Gathering Together Designer Series Paper (DSP) collection.  To add a bit of elegance, shimmer and shine I embossed the foliage with gold embossing powder.  


Two Branching out Dies cut a "window frame" in the DSP, and I layered Season of Elegance Basic Beige & Gold Specialty paper behind the frame.  Both pieces of checked DSP are popped up with dimensionals so the "golden" frame is recessed between the DSP layers.

HINT:  When popping up DSP, it is helpful to use a piece of cardstock as a backing to provide stiffness.

The Happy Birthday sentiment from The Right Words is heat embossed with gold embossing powder on Basic Beige cardstock, and an extra little strip of the Season of Elegance Specialty Paper provides a lower border (and more gold) for the greeting.

Three little pieces of Open Weave Trim were scrunched together and tied in the center to add a bit of "fluff" on the left of the greeting.


Being one to never let pretty scraps go to waste, I used the frame that was left over from the card front when I die cut the Gathering Together DSP.  

The inside sentiment, also from The Right Words Stamp Set, was heat embossed with gold.  Then two Friendly Foliage die cut leaves of gold foil were tucked into the lower right corner to keep the shimmer & shine going.
