HUMMINGBIRD LOVE

When I googled hummingbird images earlier this week to see what color hummingbirds are, I was really surprised at the variety of colors. So, since it's been so fun coloring him and experimenting with all those colors, I decided to bring him back for the last Thoughtful Expressions card this week. I've decided to name today's hummingbird Humphrey.

Humphrey said he needed several flowers on his card because he was hungry. So I decided to use the only flower in the stamp set that I hadn't used let this week. Because Humphrey was hungry, I decided to give him 3 flowers so he could have breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Humphrey's flowers are Melon Mambo, Berry Burst and Flirty Flamingo, so he could have lots of variety. I thought maybe different color flowers taste different. Who knows, they might, right?

Humphrey's shield-like sentiment sign was made with the fancy "rectangle" shaped dies in the Thoughtful Expressions Dies. Have I said I love the dies in this bundle? I think so, but it bears repeating! These dies are so versatile.

I stamped another of the flowers on the inside of the card to give it a little pop of color.

THOUGHTFUL EXPRESSIONS ELEGANCE

Today's card combines the beautiful flowers from Thoughtful Expressions with the Nature's Sweetness Designer Series Paper (DSP).

This pretty paper has several designs in the collection that include gold foil, and who doesn't love a beautiful specialty paper with lots of gold shimmer and shine. I adhered the Nature's Sweetness DSP to a mat of gold foil. But, before adding the DSP, I die cut the Thoughtful Expressions fancy "circle" from the center of the foil mat.

Cutting a die cut from the center of a foil mat is something I always do, even if I don't have a planned use for it at the time. But it is a great tip to remember to maximize the use of your foil cardstock. There is no point in covering up all the pretty gold, right?

The flower "bouquet" was colored with Stampin' Blends. I used Highland Heather, Pretty Peacock and Granny Apple Green Blends for my coloring. The center "bouquet" and the two flower sprays at each end were die cut with coordinating dies from Thoughtful Expressions.

Flat iridescent pearls were added to each flower center and some Wink of Stella was also used to highlight the two large Highland Heather flowers.

To beautify the inside, I added two strips of the same designer series paper as was used for the card front. It's simple, but pretty.

HUMMINGBIRD SILENCE

This week I will be featuring a beautiful new bundle from the January - April Mini Catalog. It is called Thoughtful Expressions, and while the images in the stamp set are beautiful, the dies in this bundle are why I really purchased it.

Check out the Product List below to see the awesome dies in this bundle. As is typical, there are dies that coordinate with the images, but I absolutely love the layering shapes dies.

The Hummingbird is so much fun to color with Stampin' Blends. I just grabbed several different colors and started playing.

I used a die from Perennial Postage for the background die cut. The die cut behind the Hummingbird was die cut with a Thoughtful Expressions die and then embossed with the Layered Florals Embossing folder. The flower was made with another die from Thoughtful Expressions. I die cut two flowers from Daffodil Delight cardstock and then layered them with a slight rotational offset.

A gold bow from Simply Elegant Trim and a Faceted Gem add a bit of sparkle. Every card needs a little sparkle!

The sentiment from Thoughtful Expressions would be appropriate for many different occasions. Since I wasn't sure how I would ultimately use it, I left the inside blank. But I didn't want the inside to look forgotten, so I used a technique that I've seen Brandy Cox use many times and often admired--layers of Basic White cardstock. The larger mat was die cut with the same Perennial Postage Die as was used on the front and then an additional layer of Basic White was added over it.
