A WALK THROUGH THE WOODS

I'm taking a walk through the woods to a Garden Meadow today.  I hope you will come and walk with me.

The woods was die cut with an Aspen Trees Die from the beautiful Meandering Meadows Designer Series Paper (DSP).  Since I wanted to pop up the trees with dimensionals, Copper Clay cardstock was adhered to the DSP before die cutting to provide additional "structure."  After die cutting, a quick run through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine with the Timber 3D embossing folder provided woodgrain texture to the "wood" DSP.

As we exit the woods we come upon a path through a beautiful meadow also provided by the Meandering Meadows DSP.  In fact, the beautiful meadow scene is on the opposite side of the woodgrain design used for the woods.

During our walk we met a pretty blue momma bird and her chicks.  They were hiding behind some flowers, but as we walked by, they decided we were friendly and came out to say hi.  Momma insisted that she and her chicks get a special place on our card, and who could deny such a nice request.

After covering the front of the card base, I still had a strip of the 6" x 6" Meadow leftover, so I cut it into two narrower strips and used the narrowest of the two for the inside of the card and the remaining strip for the front of the envelope.

PERCHED IN A TREE AND POP-UP SLIDER

I'm excited to share today's Fun Fold card with you.  It is called a Pop-Up Slider Card and will provide a surprise to the recipient when they open it up.  I first saw this fun fold at the Creativate Retreat earlier this month.  Sharon Armstrong did a wonderful job of demonstrating how to make this unique fun fold.

It looks like a "normal" card here, doesn't it, but the inside holds a happy surprise.  I think guys will particularly like this Pop-Up Slider Fun Fold as they are going to want to know, "How did you do that!"

Before we move to the inside of the card, let me tell you a little about the card front.  The background was made using the Smooshing Technique that I shared on Connect to Create earlier this year.  If you missed that technique, you can check out my or February 6 and February 8 blog posts.  The tutorial for today's card will also include a link to the Smooshing Technique Connect to Create Video.

The colors used for the background were Gray Granite, Fresh Freesia, and Soft Sea Foam.

The wreath was cut from Soft Sea Foam cardstock using a die from Natural Prints Dies.  The cute chubby little bird and her branch are from the Perched in a Tree stamp set and Aspen Tree Dies, respectively.  I'm happy to let you know that these favorites are returning in the new 23-24 Annual Catalog.

Now to the surprise inside the card!  As you open the card the sentiment on the inside of the card starts to pop up.

Isn't that fun?  In my tutorial for today's card, I did attempt to explain how to create the mechanism that makes the Pop-Up happen.  However, as I was taking picture after picture and trying to figure out how to provide clear step-by-step instructions, I concluded that a video showing you how to do it might be helpful.

The video tutorial uses different color pieces than today's card so that each element of the mechanism was easier to see in the video.  The written Tutorial is color-coded to coordinate with the video tutorial.  I would recommend downloading the written tutorial and then following along with the video.   If you still have any questions on how to make this slider mechanism, please leave a comment on this post, and I will do my best to answer all questions.

You can download a copy of the written tutorial by using this link.

SQUIRRELS IN THE ASPENS

Today I combined the Nuts about Squirrels stamp set with the Aspen Trees Dies.

This was definitely the quickest and easiest card of the week!  But isn't it pretty?  It's so nice when you have pretty designer series paper and the right tools to make a quick card.

The designer paper behind the trees is from the Rain or Shine Designer Series Paper (DSP) Collection.  All I had to do was cut the Basic White cardstock with the die from Aspen Trees Dies to create my woods.

The coordinating stamp set, Perched in a Tree, and these dies were first introduced in the July - December Mini catalog.  But I was so excited to see that they are carrying over, so they are still available if you missed out on them last fall.

Once the trees were die-cut, I layered them over the DSP and mounted it to my Balmy Blue card base.

All that was left was to stamp my little squirrel on a Basic White scrap and fussy cut him.  That was the longest part of making this card.

The cute little tag for the sentiment is from Designer Tag Dies.  A double bow of linen thread completed the card front.

In keep with my mantra of "no naked insides", I added a leftover strip of the Rain or Shine DSP to the right side of the Basic White cardstock.

When I was making the card front, I wasn't sure if I wanted two squirrels or one.  I had thought about having one behind the trees, but I couldn't make it work.  Since I had stamped one of each squirrel, I had a spare, so I just tucked him on the inside of my card.
