BIRTHDAY ARCHES

For my last card this week I have decided to use the Everyday Arches and Everyday Skies to create a birthday card.

The Everyday Arches stamp set does not include a birthday sentiment, so I borrowed one from Cheerful Daisies and also used the Cheerful Daisies die to cut the sentiment.

Today's card is a "loose" interpretation of a sketch that I recently shared on my Template Time Learning With Friends Video.  Here is the sketch.

Can you see the connection between the card and the sketch?

If you are interested in seeing additional cards made using this versatile template watch the replay of my monthly Template Time Learning with Friends video.

The two rectangular elements on the template were replaced with arched elements, and I had to move them around a bit to get my arched sentiments to show, but I think the connection between the template and the card is there.

Templates should always be used as inspiration.  Never think you need to copy them exactly!

The sentiments were heat embossed with Black Embossing Powder because I wanted them to really pop on the Everyday Skies Designer Series Paper (DSP).  This card uses three different designs of this gorgeous DSP. The birds and hot air balloon were stamped with Night of Navy.

After die cutting the arches from the DSP, leftover strips were used on the inside of the card and the envelope to make a beautiful, coordinated set.  The sentiment on the inside of the card is from the So Sincere stamp set.

FLOWERS OF BEAUTY ON LINEN

Welcome back to Hodgepodge week where you are going to see a little of this and a little of that.   Yesterday I shared a card made with the Herringbone Technique, and today's Card has a pretty display of Flowers of Beauty on "linen".

This card is bright and very cheery.  The colorful display of flowers and leaves were stamped on white tissue paper.  After stamping the tissue paper was crinkled up tightly, smoothed out a little and then adhered to Basic White cardstock.  The result is a technique that looks like linen.

If you are unfamiliar with the Faux Linen Technique watch the video below to see exactly how it is done.

In the video I talk about the similarities between the Faux Linen Technique and the Faux Silk Technique.  Both of those fabrics have a similar trait -- they tend to wrinkle!  Personally, I tend to avoid clothes made with either of these fabric because of the wrinkling.  And don't they usually have to be dry cleaned as well?  But I do think both techniques make pretty backgrounds for cards.  So, I will just stick to putting my "linen" and "silk" on cards.

The colors used for today's Flowers of Beauty are all from the Brights Color Family Collection -- Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Berry Burst, Flirty Flamingo and Granny Apple Green.  For cards where I want to use many colors, I know that if I pick them all from the same family they will coordinate well together.  So, today we celebrate the Bright Family of colors.

I used a stamp from the Shepherd's Care stamp set to add a few black dots.  I could have used any speckles stamp or just used a Black Stampin' Write Marker to splatter some specs but the Shepherd's Care stamp set was laying on my craft table, so it was handy.

For the inside of the card and the envelope I decorated the corner with more Flowers of Beauty.

The one thing on the front of my card that I wasn't really crazy about was the placement of the leaves.  So for the inside and the envelope, I decided to mask the flowers and then stamp the leaves.  By masking I was able to get mostly leaves with minimal stems.  The masking added a step so it was a little more work, but I liked the result better.  What do you think? Stems or minimal stems.

CHEERFUL DAISIES HINGE FUN FOLD

It's Friday and time for a Friday Fun Fold.  I have no idea what the official name of this fun fold is, but I'm calling it a Hinge Fun Fold.

Yesterday on my Learning with Friends video, I demonstrated how to make this card.  It is quite a simple fun fold, but I like it because you can use it to showcase 3 different designer series paper (DSP) designs if you want.

If you missed yesterday's video you can watch the replay below.

I used two different DSP collections on this card.  Wildly Flowering was used on the front left panel and the inside of the card.  Country Woods was used on the square focal point behind the daisies.  Both are beautiful collections that I think you will want in your DSP arsenal!

The only stamping on this card was the sentiment!  The daisies were made completely with die cuts and a small blending brush to color the centers with Moody Mauve ink and the leaves with Misty Moonlight ink.

I fluffed the flower petals a bit by using a bone folder to add just a little bit of curl.  It makes them look a lot thicker than they are.

I didn't yet add a sentiment to the inside of the card.  I often leave the inside sentiment free so I can add one later once I know who the recipient will be.

I did add a narrow strip of the same DSP on the edge of the Basic White to give the inside a little pop of color.  The DSP lining the inside of the card base and covering the hinge is a linen-look Misty Moonlight that I love, but honestly it doesn't show its best in the photo.  It is so much prettier in person.
