MODERN SANTA FUN FOLD

I'm excited to share today's card with you, and I look forward to hearing what you think about it.


The style of this card is a little less traditional, but I love how it turned out.  There is a lot of Christmas gold which leans right into my taste of Christmas decor.  Even Santa is all decked out in his gold Christmas Suit!


His suit was made using the paper piecing technique.  I first stamped him on Basic White and then again on Brushed Gold Foil.  Just be sure to use Stazon or some permanent ink when you stamp on foil because otherwise it wants to smudge.   To create his suit, fussy cut just the sections you want from the foil and adhere it to the Basic White stamped image.  Fortunately this Festive Santa has a coordinating die so I die cut him before I dressed him up in his fancy suit!

On Monday on indicated that the fun fold that I cased was based on a card I received from a fellow demonstrator.  I also received this fun fold from another fellow demonstrator.  When you have a sample in hand, it sure makes it easier to figure out how to make it!

But this fun fold definitely needs a few extra photos to get the full impact of the awesome card.


Here the card is shown fully open so you can see how each panel is decorated.  Obviously, you could decorate them differently than I did (mine is very different from the one I received), but that's part of the fun.

I know all the cuts & folds look a little complicated -- which is what I thought when I received it, but actually it was so much simpler than it looked.  There are no strange dimensions!  I even "messed up" my horizontal cuts for the pop-out section, but it still turned out great.  In fact, in one way it actually worked out better as the largest Stylish Shapes Die now worked perfectly to cut the Gold Foil mat behind Santa.  

Because I had miscut I had to adjust the size of the DSP & gold mats above and below Santa a bit, but it worked out great.  In fact, I may experiment with making the pop-out section (where Santa is) in different sizes depending on the image I want to put on the pop-out.  I would just recommend that you do not cut your mats until you have your horizontal cuts done.


Above you can see the card all closed up and below is a close-up of Santa.


I think he likes his fancy gold suit!

The trees behind Santa were fussy cut from the same Modern Christmas Designer Series Paper that you see on the far right section of the card.

I didn't want to write my message on the pretty forest of trees, so I decided to add a message layer on the back of the card.

FESTIVE SNOWMAN

I saved my favorite card this week to last.  There is something about these adorable Festive Friends characters that just make me smile every time I use them!


Today I using the tearing technique with the Two-Tone Cardstock.  I've used the "tearing" technique on and off over the years, but it was usually associated with a "vintage" or "grunge" style of card.  And since I don't often make cards in that style, I tend not to use this technique much.

When you tear Two-Tone cardstock it gives you a white edge which I like--not at all vintage.    In fact, I really like the torn appearance for snow drifts like these.


I used Cloud Cover two-tone cardstock and alternated using the dark and the light sides.

Depending on the direction you tear the cardstock you will get the white edge on either the dark or the light side.  So, pay attention to the direction you tear.  When you tear it, the back side of one piece will have the white edge and the front edge of the other piece will have the white edge.   For my snow, I just flipped one of them over and used both pieces.

Before creating the "snow", I used a Blending Brush and Secret Sea ink for the sky.  I envisioned a dark night sky with a full moon.  However, I initially forgot to mask the moon.  So, I placed a 1" circle mask over the inked area and added more ink.   I kept it lighter near the moon and darker farther away, creating a clear outline.  The result was unexpectedly pleasing -- a fortunate crafting mistake.

The small trees on the horizon line and the large trees on the left were die cut with dies from Light & Wonder Dies.

The little snowman from Festive Friends Stamp Set was given a bright, multi-colored hat with Stampin' Blends and his scarf was colored with one of the colors in the hat.  

The sentiment is from Festive Friends and was die cut with the Traditional Label Die.  Did I say how much I love the Traditional Labels Dies?  They are SO VERSATILE with many different shapes and sizes.


To provide a base of snow for my snowman on the inside of the card I added a couple of leftover torn strips from the card front.  The sentiment is from the Jolly Holly stamp set.  This is another stamp set that has received a LOT of use this season -- this greeting in particular.  I like that it is tall and narrow in shape and the sentiment sounds like me.

SNOWMAN ENJOYING THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

Today's card is a fun Interactive Slider Card.  Pull the little tab that is peeking out from the right side of the card and the snowman will slide across the drifts of snow.

Do you see the little tab peeking out?  There is a Shimmer Gem on the end of it to make it easier to grab.



Just pull the tab to the right to reveal a greeting of PEACE, LOVE AND JOY and watch the snowman slide across the snow.


Fun right?

The snowman is from Festive Friends.  The die cut tree line across the snowy hill and the gorgeous Lights of Aurora designer series paper (DSP) which creates the beautiful sky of Northern Lights are from the Lights of Aurora Suite of Products.


The drifts on the snowy hill were made with the So Swirly embossing folder.  This folder is so versatile.  It can be used to create snow drifts, waves of water on a lake or mimic the movement of a butterfly or bird in flight.


Another strip of the Lights of Aurora DSP and a tree line die cut tie the inside of the card to the card front.
