THEM BONES CHRISTMAS

If you have been following me for the last month or so you know that I am challenging myself to make one Christmas card each week using whichever product I am featuring for the week.

Making a Christmas card from Halloween Designer Series Paper was a challenge, but I love how my Christmas Card turned out.

There was one design within the collection that was Starry Sky Stripes, so that was my starting point.  It was the only design that I thought I could make work for Christmas.  Orange and Black Plaids or Orange Houndstooth patterns can certainly be used for non-Halloween cards, but I didn't think they worked for Christmas.  I like to use non-traditional colors for Christmas, but orange just wasn't working!

The design with a border of tombstones on each side of the paper had a starry "sky" section in the center of it, but it also had a bunch of bats flying around in that sky, so I knew I couldn't use much of it for my sky as bats didn't seem appropriate for Christmas either.  In order to have a "bat-free" sky I would only be able to use a narrow strip.  But this created challenges with the layout because.  Using such a narrow strip made the proportions look wrong.

I had seen a Double Z Fun Fold that used a narrow strip near the bottom of a card, and that gave me a brainstorm!  Why couldn't I use the narrow Z-Fold at the top?  And when I remembered the Horse & Sleigh bundle, everything fell into place.

The bush on the front is heat embossed on Starry Sky cardstock with White embossing powder.

The tree on the base of the card to the far right, was heat embossed with both white and silver embossing powder on Basic White cardstock.

The Sleigh is attached to the left panel of the card with dimensionals and the horse is not adhered to anything.  When you open and close the card the horse moves across the scene.

The foiled designer paper on the two far left front panels is from the Naturally Gilded DSP collection.  I scattered several iridescent rhinestones in the sky to create sparkle as you open and close the card.  What do you think?  Does THEM BONES work for Christmas?

IS A DOUBLE Z FUN FOLD A TRICK OR A TREAT?

Double Z Fun Folds are one of my favorite designs to showcase designer series paper (DSP), so I think it is a treat!

Since I am sharing cards made with the THEM BONES designer series paper collection this week the double Z fun fold will let me share 5 different patterns from this collection.

If you have never made a Double Z Fun Fold, no worries.  It is a lot simpler than you may think.

For this card, if you can cut designer series paper and adhere it to two different card bases, you can easily make this card.  Here is a photo with the card laying completely open so you can see which DSP goes on which section.  It is as easy as cutting the pieces and then follow the photo to adhere each piece.

You will adhere all layers on each card base BEFORE your assemble the Large card base and the smaller card base together.

Download a free tutorial which includes diagrams for all your cutting and scoring dimensions as well as step-by-step directions.

The plaid DSP design that you see on the front flap of the large card base and also on the envelope flap is my favorite DSP in this collection.  It's great for Halloween Themed projects but could certainly be used for non-Halloween cards.

The sentiment on the card front is from the retired stamp set called Frightfully Cute, but if you don't have that stamp set, any Halloween stamp you have will work fine for this card.  I colored Classic White Matte dots with my Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Blends to add the cute little orange dots.

The skeletons are from another DSP design, and all I did was cut the panels to size.

The TRICK or TREAT sentiment is from the very versatile stamp set Throughout the Year which is in the September - December 2023 Mini.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN FOR SIMPLY MONDAY

I'm doing something a little different this week.  Rather than featuring a specific stamp set or bundle, I am going to feature the THEM BONES designer series paper (DSP).

I don't do a lot of Halloween cards but I know there are people that love Halloween almost as much as I love Christmas.  So, for those stampers I like to share at least a couple cards to inspire you.

Today's card for SIMPLY MONDAY is about as easy as a card can get.  The THEM BONES DSP includes two sheets that have designs that are sized for a card front.  The only thing you need to do is cut them out and adhere to your card front.

Two other sheets in the collection have rows of various tombstones.  This Ricky D. Bones tombstone was one of them and all I had to do was cut it out and pop it on the card front with dimensionals.  The Happy Halloween sentiment on the card front is from the retired stamp set Frightfully Cute.

For the inside of the card I cut out another of the tombstones which says TOMB sweet TOMB.

The TRICK or TREAT sentiment is from the new stamp set in the Mini Catalog called Throughout the Year.  This stamp set is a very versatle sentiment set that includes sentiments for most of the holidays throughout the year.

To see more of the designer series paper that is included in the THEM BONES collection see the Product List below.  While many of the designs on the "front" of the DSP are pretty Halloween specific, the backside of each sheet will work for all types of cards.  So even though it has a very "Halloween" name, don't think you can only use it for Halloween!
