I think I've mentioned previously that I belong to a Coffee Club of Stamping Friends and fellow demonstrators. Each month we take turns picking a "challenge" for the month and then at the next coffee club, we share the cards we made for that challenge. It's so fun to see how everyone has such different ideas!
Our February challenge was to make a card using scraps! This was one of the cards I shared.
This may sound like an easy challenge, but it was more difficult for me than I thought it would be.
Having worked as an automotive product development engineer for my entire career, we had a fairly specific definition of "scrap". And I learned that my engineering definition of "scrap" was different from a paper crafters definition of "scrap". In my definition, I had to use the scrap in its current form without modifying it. According to my Coffee Club friends, their "scrap" could be recut and modified to whatever you wanted it to be. Hmmm... That made it much easier than having to use my "scrap" exactly as it was. But I found that out a little late!
So, I had already made this card using my definition. As you can see my strips of Bright & Beautiful Designer Series Paper (DSP) in the background are all different widths. I would have liked them all to be the same width, but I thought that was against the "scrap" rules. I also had to search my stash of "scraps" for pieces that were similar in length. Staggering their positions vertically helped with that issue, but because the widths were different I had to overlap some greater amounts than others.
In the end, I do kind of like how it turned out -- although the lack of symmetry did mess with me a bit.

I used the cup from Everyday Details and colored it with Stampin' Blends. That was easy because there were so many colors in the Bright & Beautiful DSP that I could choose from.
Do you see the holes around the circle? This is a design feature of all the dies from Everyday Details. I really love these dies. I punched a circle from Berry Burst cardstock to add behind the die cut which really shows off those little holes!
The sentiment is cut with another Everyday Detail Die. With all the color on the card, the pure white sentiment seemed a little out of place, so I took my Stampin' Blends and wiped a bit of color over the larger, bolder words in the sentiment.
To decorate the inside of the card I just used some more scraps of Bright & Beautiful DSP. By this time I was no longer worrying about if they were the same width and just used what I had.
So what do you think of my scrap card? Should it be scrapped?
