SUNSINE STARBURST DREAMS

I decided to use the Starburst Background Design Technique for today's card featuring this week's stamp set, Covered in Sunshine.  I have not made a card with this design technique in a very long time.  This is a fun technique to make an interesting background.

This background may look a little difficult, but as long as you have lots of designer series paper (DSP) scraps and a paper trimmer, it is actually very easy.  If you are a paper crafter, you know that having lots of paper scraps is never a problem.  In fact, having TOO MANY scraps may be the larger problem.

To make this Starburst pattern you want to pick DSP designs that coordinate and isn't it handy that this is exactly what Stampin' Up! products are all about--coordination!

So, before starting, I decided to look though my designer series paper stash and see which collections I wanted to use.  I found two different collections that were almost untouched. The first one was Like an Animal Specialty and the second was Dry Brushed Metallic Specialty.   Both are beautiful, foiled patterns, so I knew they would make a statement full of shimmer and shine.

My tutorial for today's card includes written directions on how to create a starburst design.  To download a FREE copy, please use this link.

Once I completed the starburst background, I knew I needed to mat it on cardstock that would be worthy of the beautiful gold, silver, blue and green foils.  So, I went back to my stash of foils, and I found the Distressed Gold Specialty Paper.  OK, I'll be honest, it is so pretty that I have been hording it!  But it was time to get over my hoarding and start using it.  So, I matted both the Starburst and my sentiment with it.

I embossed the sentiment with Gold Embossing Powder and after layering it on the Distressed Gold Paper, I added a few swirls of the gold cord from Simply Elegant trim and then adhered it to the center of my starburst with dimensionals.

If you are wondering what the pretty paper below the starburst is, it is called Brushstrokes.  This is another beautiful Specialty paper that I've been hoarding.  As we near the end of our current Annual Catalog sales period, I decided it was time to stop hoarding and start using these beautiful papers.

The inside of the card was also dressed up with these pretty papers.

When creating the starburst for the front, there were many scraps leftover, so I used them to make a mini starburst in a corner on the inside.  I also matted the completed Basic White with the Distressed Gold paper before adhering it to the center of the Soft Succulent card base.  See the Tutorial to learn some tricks and tips to maximize the use of beautiful, but a little more costly Specialty paper.

For more information on any of the beautiful papers used on today's card, see the product list below.  Most of these will likely no longer be available once the January - April Mini and the Annual Catalog sales periods end.  We don't know, they could carry over into the new Annual Catalog, but that doesn't happen too often with Designer Series Paper, so if you love them, don't wait until it is too late!  Click on any of the images in the Product List to learn more.

A SINGLE RED HEART

A single red rose is of great significance to me as it has always been a "silent" way to say, "I love you".

Today's card pays homage to that special meaning.

In reality the rose on my stem isn't a rose, but it is a single Sweet Sorbet heart.  Hearts are symbols of love, and so I put it on a single Mint Macaron Stem to turn it into my symbol of love.

The delicate corner die cut was made with one of the dies from Artisan Additions Dies and was cut from another of the patterns in the Country Floral Lane Designer Series Paper (DSP).  You can see the uncut version of the DSP design on the flap of my envelope.

The petal pink background was embossed with the Splatters Embossing Folder from Stripes and Splatters.  The multiple mat layers make the Single Stem Heart pop as they bring your eye to the focal point.

The With Love sentiment was stamped with Evening Evergreen ink and die cut with a Beautiful Shapes Die.  Three Flat Adhesive Backed Pearls add a bit of elegance to the card front.  If you have missed these pearls, you need to check them out.  They are not called iridescent in the Mini Catalog, but in person, they definitely have iridescence.  So beautiful and honestly, they were just what this card needed as a finishing touch!

The same DSP die-cut and matting was used to decorate the inside of the card.  With the placed on the Basic White rather than Petal Pink card stock you can more clearly see the beautiful details of this die-cut.

BEAUTIFULLY HAPPY ACETATE BIRTHDAY

A few weeks ago, I shared a video on Connect to Create about how to create cards with Window Sheets.

One of those cards, made with the Grassy Grove Bundle, was shared on this blog on November 28, and today I'm showing you the second card that I shared during the video.

Today's card uses two sneak peek products that will be available on January 5, 2023.  The flower on the front of the card is from a Sale-a-Bration stamp set called Beautifully Happy, and the Designer Series Paper (DSP) on the edges of the Window Sheet are from the Dry Brushed Metallic DSP Collection which will be available in the new Mini Catalog.  This paper is absolutely gorgeous!

The flower was stamped with the two-step stamp in Rich Razzleberry and Soft Succulent.  It is adhered to the window sheet, so it looks like it is floating.  I did adhere it with dimensionals, but I think if I were to make it again, I would adhere it directly to the window sheet using the technique I demonstrated in the video.

Adhering it directly will still provide the appearance of the flower floating, but when you open the card, you will not see dimensionals on the back of the flower.

For the inside of the card, I added another small flower and the cute little Bee.  I placed them carefully so they would look like they were part of the bouquet when you saw them through the Window Sheet.

Placement of the sentiment was also carefully positioned so that it was completely hidden by the flower on the Window Sheet.

For consistency, I also added a strip of the pretty Designer Series Paper to the Basic White cardstock panel used for the inside of the card.

For more details on how to make this card, a written tutorial is available to download at this link.

The two sneak peek products used on this card which become available January 5, 2023, are shown below.
  • Beautifully Happy Stamp Set -- Available as a FREE Sale-a-Bration choice with a $100 merchandise order.
  • Dry Brushed Metallic Designer Series Paper -- Available for purchase in the January - April 2023 Mini Catalog (Page 43).
The current products that were used are listed in the Product List below.
